Description

THOMAS A. WALSH, OF YONKERS, NEW YORK.
FILE-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 1Q, 1907.
Application filed January 23. 1907. Serial No. 353.671.
T o all 'whom 'it 'may conce-m:
Be it known that I, THOMAS A. WALSH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Yonkers, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in File-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to file boxes and more' i particularly to that class containing leaves whereon may be pasted records orv cuttings and which may be safely stored and kept from dirt and dust, at the same time they are readily accessible and easy of inspection as will be more fully described in the followin 'specification illustrated in the drawings an pointed out in the appended claims.
In ,the drawings like reference characters are used to designate the saine parts in the several figures.
Figure l is a perspective view of my iinproved fle box. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the same-clo'sede-zz My improved box consists of a case made in the form of a book and having covers 5 hinged to a back 6 the same being made of wood or stout card-board and appro riately covered by cloth or paper. litliin tlie same is bound a number of leaves 7 in any suitable manner and which are adapted to receive scraps, prescriptions, pictures or such articles which are -to be iiled away and kept fol` reference. One of the covers 5 is4 provided With flanges 8 to wliich'fare hinged suitable inclosing members 9 and 10 and in the corners formed by these anges 8 are angle ieces 11 which not only strengthen t e anges but project beyond their outer edges and serve to limit the inward movement of the win s 9 and 10. The other cover 5 is provide( with angular sockets 12 formed between angle fianges 122, and which sockets are adapted to receive the free ends of the wings 9 and 10 when they are turned upward as shown in Fi 2.
This device is particularly adapted for the use of filing druggists prescriptions which adapted, when in cIosed are pasted upon the leaves while the device is open as shown in Fig. 1 and it may be provided with suitable indexing pages also pages containing suitable memorandums and receipts. When all of the pages have received their prescri tions or receipts the device Inay be store away for reference and forms a very compact and ornamental receptacle for prescriptions which may be placed upon a book shelf and resent the appearance of a book. Suita le locking means 13 may be arranged to hold the covers l together while the angle pieces 12 irmly brace the sides and preventthe devicefrom becominoF weak and the sides dislocated.
What claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A file box of the class described comprising a back, covers hinged to the sides thereof, one of such covers having devices on its inner sides near one outer 'corner forming angle sockets, the other cover having side and end flanges projecting from the inner side thereof, angle pieces 1n the an les between such flanges and projecting eyond their outer edges; and wings hinged to the said flanges of the last mentioned cover and adapted, when in closed position, to bear against such angle -pieces and to enter the angle sockets of the other cover.
2. A file box of the class described comprising a back, covers hinged to the sides thereof, one of said covers having devices on its inner side at its outer corners providing angle sockets, the other cover having flanges at its sides and ends extending from its inner face, and wings hinged to such flanges and osition, to enter the angle sockets of the otlier cover.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
THOMAS A. WALSH.
