To all whom it may concern.'
Be it lmown that I, FELIX J. PATNoD, -a citizen of the United States, residing at Worcester, in the county of WorcesterState of Massachusetts,l have invented a certain new and4 useful Improvement in Comb-Cementing Clamps, of whichl the followin is a thereln to .is an end,l view ofthe same showing the rlbs, vwhich are" constructed vto strengthen Ithe clamps. Figs. 4 and 5 show, respectively, an end and slde view of one of the links v,which I shall describe hereinafter. Figs. 6 and 7 are front and side views, respectivel of the yoke. F' s. which is a flat sheet of metal, T shaped 1n form with the cross ofthe' T forming the lower jaw of the clamp; 2 is also a T shaped plate, but shorterl than 1 and hinged t it by the pin hinge 3. This pin hinge 3 is of the ordinary form onlybroad enough so ,that the s ring, which I shall describe eter, may be p aced upon it,l the form of this hlnge being est shown in Flg.l 2. Upon the -upper clamp 2 is' the 'aw' 4, which 1s the cross portion of the T, a the other jaw' 5, which is laced upon vthe lower and similar .to it. The object of cutting the recess 22 in the link 8, already described, is that it may clear the guide block when the lever is pushed forward, giving to the link the motion, whichl shall describe more fully hereafter. 23 is the hole in the end of the yoke 6 which the handle 9 is screwed, as has already been stated. 24and 24 are the holes in the said yoke throughv whichr the pin asses.
v he method of operation of the invention is as follows. The-comb to be cemented is laced between the jaws 4 and- 5, the lever having been brought forward in the direction of the arrow A, and then the lever is shoved back until it strikes the shoulder 11. The
motion of the lever in the direction of the arrow A, already mentioned, causes the upper jaw to be raised and the turning of the sameto its place, closes the jaws to ether. This is accomplished b means of the 'nk 8, described. T e lower pin 14 is a little'out of the straight line, connecting the center 15 and the center 13 in the directionof the front of the clamp, in order that the be locked when against the shoulder 11. This link in'connection with the oke with axis at 15 makes a typicalto'gglejoint so that, as one of the p'oints is moved others must be brought nearer together. As the lever is pushed from its forward position into the position shown in the figure, the three points 13, 14 line just before the guide block 7 strikes the shoulder 11 andthen the points 13 and 15 ass the point 14 in the alinement, thus t e lock previously described. As the size of the combs to be cemented varies. very materially, it is necessary to make the clamp ladjustable and to adopt a method of adjusting which' will keep the jaws exactly paralle To accomphsh this,

To tighten the jaws, unscrew the lock-nut 10 upon thehandle 9 yand then screw the hole 23, as shown in Figs. 6 vand 7, thus pressing down on the guide block 7 and also the link 8, which is connected with the said guide block and which in turnshoves down on the upper jaw 2. . n the older forms of comb cementing clam s now in use, instead of our single bolt, whic acts as a regulator, there are a series of ordinary bolts passed through the two plates at some distance apart and it is not only very difficult but almost impossible to regulate all these bolts 'so that the pressure at one end of the comb is the same as at the other. my invention, the regulating bolt comes in the middle so that the ressure cannot help but be the same at bot ends, which is a very material advantage. A slight diHerence in the level' of either side of the 'aw is not material, but it is very material that the ends should be exactly even and therefore exert an even' pressure. y' v My reason for cutting out the' recess 22 is that the link may advance further, as the lever is brought forward, without strikin against the edge 26 of the-guide block One ofthe advantages -f the link motion,
