UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 26, 1907.
Application filed March 8, 1907. Serial No. 361.268.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS S. I'IALEY, citizen of the United States of America, residing at West Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Button-Loops, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of the class specified having features of novelty and advantage.
In the drawings-Figure 1 is a front view of the loop. Fig. 2 is an edge view thereof. Fig. 3 is an end view thereof.
Referring to the drawings the loop proper is denoted in general at (1', its side members I) b converging to form a narrow throat c and then each side member bent into a hook as indicated at d d. The tips of the hooks overlie one another forming an eye a to receive the button shank, said eye being in communication with the loop proper through the contracted. throat c.
The side members are adapted to spring so that, when the shank of the button forces them open and thereby passes through the throat into the eye, the hooks spring back into place forming a securely closed eye. The shank of the button cannot work its way out of the throat against the spring action of said side members and a special advantage of this kind of button-loop is that it adapts itself to any sized button shank, securely holding the same in place.
I claim as my invention:
A button loop formed from a single piece of resilient wire bent to form a substantially triangular body, the said members of which terminate in close relation to form a narrow throat, the free extremities of said wire beyond the termination of said side members being curved in a semi-circle to form hooks, the hooks overlapping each other to form an eye, the said overlapping portions of the .hooks reversely inclined on their inner faces so that the wire is of the same cross-sectional area throughout, and all parts of the eye and body are in the same plane.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS S. I-IALEY. Witnesses:
FLORENCE E. RILEY, GEO. B. WARD.
