SHIELD FOR LlADIES DRAWERS 'Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 26, 1 907.
Application led March 9. 1907. Serial No. 361.586.
To all 'whom fit 'may concern:
Bc jt known that I, ISABEL IRENE ELTER- lcH, a citizen ol the`Unitcd States, residing in Freeport, in the count)r of Nassau, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Shields for Ladies Drawers, ol which the following is a specilicat-ion.
This invention relates to an improved shield Vlior ladies drawers, which shield is intended to be hasted on to the edge ol the crotch-part of ladies open drawers so as to be easilyremoved when soiled for washing.
The object ol the invention is to protect the drawers at the parts inost exposed to soiling and wear, and permit thereby the longer use ol the same and to keep them in a cleaner condition for wear.
For, this purposeI the invention consists of a shield 'lor ladies drawers comprising a mainpece oi' -fabric composed of two approximately triangular' portions stitched together, and an overlap extending along the upper curved edge of the main-piece, as will be fully described hereinafter and iinallr pointed out in the claims.
,In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a l'ront-elevation oi' a pair ol' ladies drawers showing my improved shields applied to the same, Ilig. 2 is a rear-elevation of the dra.\'ers, Fig. 3 is a detail top-view of a right-hand shield, and Fig. 4 is/a top-view of the parts l'rom which my improved shield is made'.
Similar rei'erence characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the' several figures. Y
Referring to the drawings, l) represents a pair oi` ladies' drmrers and A, A1, a pair of shields, one being a left-hand and the other a right-hand shield, which shields are applied to the crotch 'part of the drawers, as shown in Fig. l. The shields are so formed as to lit and cover the crotch-edges oi the drawers and cover that portion of the drawers at the crotch that is most exposed to soiling and wear.
The shields are made of ribbed, stockinctte, knit, absmbent, or other suitable fabric, and are formed each of three parts, a main-piece which is composed of two apprcximately stitched together at d, and an overlap-p0rtion c which is made in one piece and triangular pieces a., I), that are stitched to the curved up )er edge of the main-piece a, b, as shown c early 1n Figs. l and 3. The entire outer edge of the shield is iinished oill by overseam or buttonhole stitches e so as to prevent raveling and to permit the easy busting on of the shield` alo. its edges and along the. ovcr--lap onio drawers.
For applying a pair ol shields as shown Fig. 3 to drawers as shown in Fig. E, place seam d ol" the right-hand shield e" i ijht side c.; .oi' Fig. l, place the portion u. ol` s 4eid on the outside of Fig.- `l, place the Aportion o of shield on the outside of Fig. l, buck of seam, place overlap c around the entire erotchpart, the overlap being turned over ou the 7e inside of the drawers, thus entirely covering thc crotch-edge olE drawers, the parts e and o being on the outside of the drawers. The. entire edge c is then busted or sewed to the drawers as the case may require, perfectly -fitting the same and shielding that portion ci the drawers most exposed to soil and wear. 'lhe left-hand shield is then Ylitted to the leithand drawer-leg inthe saine manner as described for the right-hand leg. g 1lfVhen the shields are soiled they are removed for washing, another clean pair being applied to the drawers in their place.
Having thus. described my invention, l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A shield lorladies7 drawers, consistii'ig of aniain-pieee otlali-ic composed of two ap proximatel)1 triangular portions stitched to gether, and ani overlap-.portion stitched lo the upper curveil. edge ol' i, e, i11ain-piiwe- 2. 'l he combination., with apair oll drnwezns having an open crotch, of 'shields applied to the. edges oi' the crotch and each comprislng a main-pieco of. fabric composed ol two sa approximatel)r triangular portions stitched together andextending outwardly over the crotch, and "an, overlapping portion stitched to the edge of the main-'portion an'd extending inwardly over the edges ofthe crotch.
In testimony, that l. claim the foregoing as my invention, l have signed my naine in. presence of two subscrilt-ing witnesses.
PAUL GOEPEL, HENRY J. Surmnmn.
