UNITED STATES PATENT OFFlCE.
IBEULAH E. DRYER, or ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, AssIcNoR or aim-ma, 'ro GERALD a. DRYER, or ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
REVERSIBLE DRESS.
Application filed February 25, 1926. Serial No. 80,673.
The object of this invention is to provide a new and improved form of reversible dress.
This and other objects of the inventionwill be fully illustrated in the drawings, described in the specification and pointed out in the claims at the end thereof.
In the drawin Figure 1 is a ront elevation of the dress.
Figure 2 is a vertical perspective view of the left hand portion of the dress, therlght hand portion being cut awa Figure 3 is a plan view 0 one half of the dress either front or back.
Figure 4 is a section through the cuff on the line 4", 4* of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a section through the collar on the line 5, 5" of Figure 2.
In the drawings like reference numerals indicate like parts.
In the drawings reference numeral 1 1ndicates the front of the dress and 2 indicates the back of the dress. The front and back of the dress are each made of one iece of cloth 'cut to the outline shown in igure 3. These two pieces are joined together along the side seams 3, 4 and along the shoulder seams 5, and 6. Each half of the dress is rovided with a pocket 7, 80 8, as shown in igure'2. As the dress a pears in Figure 2 the pocket 7 is on t e outside of the dress at the front and the pocket 8 is on the inside of the dress at the back. When the front and back of the dress are joined together armholes are provided at 9 and 10 and these are finished with the cuffs 11 and 12. The dress is also pro? vided with a V shaped neck opening 13 which is finished with a V shaped collar 14. The collar 14 is in two pieces rightand left, one on each side of the neck and each piece of the collar is made of two pieces suitably joined together at the curved outer edge and joined to the bod of the dress along the neck line. Each cu is made of one straight piece doubled on itself and joined to the body of the dress around the armholes. a belt15, the loose ends of WhICh are tled together at either the front or back of the dress. It is also provided with belt slips on the inside and out to support the belt.
The dress so made has a seam on each of the shoulders and down each side of the dress, and it has a V shaped neck line both The dress is also provided with in the dress. It is a slip-on dress and therefore buttons and button holes therein are not needed.
The dress is reversible from inside back to the outside front and presents the same appearance ineither position and also can be turned around from front to back.
In the ordinary wash dress when the front of the dress becomes soiled, it is necessary to have'the dress washed before it can be worn again. It is a well known fact that the outside back of the dress can become soiled almost as quickly as the outside front of the dress. If the front becomes soiled the dress can be turned half way around so that the soiled front is at the back and the soiled back is at the front. Such an ex edien't, however, does not help much in pro onging the wear of the dress between washings, es-
specially in dresses for children. But the.
lnside of the dress both front and back will remain clean after the outside has become soiled, and by turning the dress inside out, and then by turnin it half way around, the original inside bac of the dress becomes the outside front of the dress. I have made mydress that is shown in this application so that it can be used in both positions and will present the same clean appearance in either position, and because the inside of the dress has been kept clean while it was the inside when it is turned inside out and turned half way around, the dress is given a clean and neat ap arance in its new position. Therefore, the dfess can be worn in both positions as a clean dress for each washing. It will also be understood that the dress can be turned halfway around without being turned inside out so that it is possible to wear the dress in either of four positions.
The collar and cuffs are reversible so that they will look the same in either position and flat or felled seams are used so that. they look the same on either side.
I claim:
1. A dress composed of two similar sections joined along the sides and shoulders to form the front and rear of the dress, the front of the front section being provided Gil with certain embellishments to improve its appearance and utility, the front of the rear section being provided with similar embellishments whereby the front .of the rear is converted into a substantial duplicate of the front of tbe t'ront, each of said sections being provided with a V shaped notch to form a neck opening, said notch having the same appearance in both the front section and rear section, and a collar stitched to the edges of said neck opening and adapted to hinge around said edges, said collar sideont and to present the same appearance when turned inside out and half way around.
2. A dress as defined in claim '1, certain of said embellishments consisting of loops to provide for the passage of a belt therethrough.
In testimony whereof I afiix 1n signature.
