To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, OSCAR P. REINKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at De Kalb, in the county of Buchanan and State of Missourhhave invented new and useful Improvements in Advertising Toys, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to advertising toys, and its primary object is to provide a device of this character, wherein a sign panel is mounted upon a dart to be moved into readable position when the dart has been attached to a convenient surface by the operator.

A. further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character wherein a controlling cord is attached to the sign panel to permit the operator to move the sign panel into readable position after thedart has been attached to a convenient surface and to enable him to readily and quickly recover possession of the device.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, where'- Figure 1 is a perspective view, illustrating the manner in which the dart maybe secured to a convenient surface and the manner in which the operator may move the sign panel into readable position, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view on an enlarged scale, the sign panel being shown in normal position.

Referring to the drawing by reference numerals, 2 designates the body and 3 the point-of the dart. The body 2 is provided in one side thereof with a longitudinally extending groove 4, and in the upper end thereof with a transversely extending groove 5 which is intersected by the groove 4.

The sign panel 6, which is preferably con structed of thin sheet metal, and which is preferably substantially elliptic in contour, is pivotally secured at a point adjacent one of its ends to the upper end of the body 2 of the dart, by means of a pin 7. This manner of securing the sign panel to the dart causes the sign panel to assume a position parallel to the dart with its straight edge located within the groove 4. With the sign panel in this position, the dart may be readily and accurately projected, all movement of the sign panel during the travel of the dartbeing prevented by that portion thereof which is positioned within the groove 4, This manner of securing the sign panel to the dart also allows the sign panel to be swung into readable position at right angles to the dart after it has been affixed to a convenient surface. The controlling cord 8 is secured at one end to the sign panel 6 at a point above the pivot 7, whereby a pull upon the cord will swing the sign panel into position. The movement of the sign panel through the medium of the cord is limited by the upper end there of engaging the bottom wall of the groove 5. The controlling cord 8 also enables the dart to be readily and quickly recovered.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the advantages of the construction and method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains, and while I have described. the principle of operation of the invention together with the device which I new consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes maybe made when desired as are within the scope of the claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, is

1. An advertising toy comprising a dart, a sign panel secured to the dart, and trolling cord. secured to the sign panel.

2. An advertising toy comprising a dart, provided with a groove, a sign panel pivot ally secured to the dart and adapted to have a portion thereof normally positioned within the groove, and a controlling cord secured to the sign panel at a point above the pivot.

3. An advertising toy comprising a dart rovided with a groove, and a sign panel secured to the dart, a portion of the sign panel being adapted to normally occupy said groove.
