C. NORDLANDERI4 SKEE STIRRUP APLIOATION FILED FEB. 4. 1907.
THE NoRRxs Ps'rSRs Co., WASHINGTON. n. c.
CARL NORDLANDER, OF NORWAY, MICHIGAN.
SKEE-STIRRUP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 12, 1907.
Application led February 4. 1907- Serial No. 3556'74-1 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL NORDLANDER, a subject of the King of Sweden, residing at Norway, in the county of Dickinson and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skee- Stirrups; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains tomake and use the same.
This invention relates to skee stirrups.
The object of the invention is to provide a novel vform of skee carrying stirrup by means of which the skee may be firmly attached to the shoe oi the wearer and beheld thereon against danger of accidental displacement.
A further object is to provide a skee stirrup having novel means whereby it may be adjusted to be used by persons with long or short feet.
. With the above and other objects in view, as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction and combinationoi parts of a skee stirrup, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part oi this specication, in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts,-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a skee stirrup constructed in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 2 is a top plan view; Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through the heel plate.
The skee 1 is, as usual, constructed from a long piece of wood, `and that portion over which the skee stirrup l is disposed is covered with tin or other sheet metal 2 to prevent the snow from clogging under the stirrup.
The stirrup embodies a toe plate 3, a heel plate, designated as 4, a shank plate 5, a heel plate locking spring 6, and toe and heel straps '-7 and 8, respectively.
The toe plate may be of any preferred contour, and is secured to the skee by screws 9 and 10. The screws 9 and l0 serve also to secure the toe strap in place beneath the toe plate, and a rivet Il to secure the toe plate shank plate and heel plate locking spring to the plate 2.
The shank plate 5 is made oi spring metal, and is of a length commensurate with that oi the skee stirrup,
and is provided with an orifice 15, to register with an orifice 14 in the spring 6 to receive the rivet l1, while a rivet 11 passes through the front end of the toe plate 3 and through the plate 5, whereby the parts are securely connected together and all that is needed to attach the stirrup to the skee is to screw in the screws through plate 3.
The heel plate consists of two plates oi metal, 1G and 17, which are in the iorm of the heel oi the shoe, and on one of which is provided series of marginal upstanding lugs 18 to receive the fasteners I9 that secure the heel strap in position, the exterior portion oi the heel strap being covered by metallic plate 29, as usual, and through which the fasteners 19 also pass. The two plates are held assembled by rivets 2l, and are held spaced apart a suitable distance to receive the rear end of the shank plate by liners 22. Each of the heel plates is also provided with a plurality of aliued orilices 23, in this instance three in number, that register in order to receive the locking lug 13 on the locking spring G.
In assembling the heel plate with the stirrup, the rear end of the shank plate is inserted between the two members of the heel plate and the lug 13 is permitted to spring through one pair of the orifices 23 and into engagement with the orifice l2 in the shank plate, thereby holding the heel plate at its desired adjustment.
The article, as will be seen from the foregoing description, is simple in construction, and will in a practical manner secure the objects sought.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is,-
1. A skee stirrup comprising; a toe plate, a heel -platc provided with a plurality of orifices, a shank plate upon which the heel plate is adjusted, and a spring having a lug to engage orifices in the heel plate to hold the latter' adjusted upon the shank plate.
2. A skee stirrup comprising,r a toe plate, a toe strap disposed beneath the saine, a shank plate and a heel plate locking spring secured in position beneath the toe plate. and a heel plate adjustable on the shank plate and held in position by the locking spring.
In testimony whereol= I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CARL NORDLANDER.
