1 The invention relates to improvements in a ski attachment as described in the present speciiication and illustrated in the accompanying drawings that form a part of the same.
The invention consists essentially of the novel features of construction as pointed out broadly and specifically in the claims for novelty following a description containing an explanation in detail of an acceptable form of the invention.
The objects of the invention are to aid the skier in keeping his proper stance and to maintain his equilibrium while descending slopes or other inclines, as well as in the action of Jumping; to enable the skier to keep the heels of his ski boots firmly aixed to the ski on prescribed occasions and also to permit the freedom of the heels of the ski boots on other occasions such as in climbing; to devise an attachment for engagement with the heel portion of the boot that can be quickly and easily detached or attached; to construct a ski harness that will .be made of comparatively few and simple parts and easily assembled; and generally to provide a ski attachment that will be durable in construction and effective in its use.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the ski attachment.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the ski attachment..
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary view illustrating the ski attachment as secured to a ski and in engagement with a ski boot.
Figure 4 is a .plan view of the movable member.
Figure 5 is a side view of the movable member.
Figure 6 is a plan view of the fixed member.
Figure '7 is a side view of the fixed member.
Figure 8 is a rear view of the ski attachment.
.Figure 9 is a front view of the ski attachment.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the various figures.
Referring to the drawings, the ski attachment consists of a fixed member, as indicated by the numeral I0, and a movable member II; the fixed member is in the form of a fiat plate made of metal or other suitable material and is secured to a ski l2 by means of screws I3, or other fastening members, and has a bearing member I 4 extending upwardly therefrom in the form of a stud. and is further provided with a plurality of apertures I5.
'I'he movable member is formed of a flat plate having an offset end forming a heel engaging member I6 and is provided with an elongated slot I1 which is adapted to be engaged by the bearing member or stud I4 of the fixed member. The
2 movable plate is further provided with a` pin Il extending downwardly from its underside for engagement with one or other of the apertures I5 located in the fixed plate.
A locking member I9 is pivotally secured to the bearing member I and has a handle 20 which acts as a lever terminating at one end `adjacent to the pivot, in the shape of pressure plates 2i; although it is of course understood that one pressure plate or member would be suiiicient for its purpose.
The ski attachment is secured to a ski so as to be located immediately behind the position where the ski boot is placed on the ski, so that the heel engaging member of the attachment may be easily and quickly engaged with the heel 2! or other rear portion of the boot.
In operation, when it is desired to allow free dom of the rear portion of the boot. such as when the skier wishes to climb a slope or perhaps simply to walk along level stretches, the locking member is released so as to allow the movable plate to be pushed rearwardly with respect to the xed member, and the pin of the movable member is inserted in one of the rearmost apertures of the fixed member, and the locking member will then be turned so as to lock the two members together in order to avoid any looseness of the parts when not in use. When the skier desires to have the rear portion of his boot tightly held to the ski for certain manoeuvres, such as in skiing down a slope or jumping, he simply raises the locking member so as to disengage the movable and fixed` members from one another, pushes the movable member forwardly sufficiently to permit the heel engaging member thereof to engage with the rear portion of his boot and allows the pin of one member to fit in the desired aperture of the other member; he then pushes down thelocking member for tightly engaging the movable member and the fixed member together, which completes the operation.
What I claim is: y
1. In a ski attachment. a fixed member adapted to be secured to a ski and having a stud textending upwardly therefrom, a movable member havinar a slotted portion which is e'ngag'ed'by the stud of the fixed member, said fixedme'mber having a plurality of apertures, a pin extending downwrm ly from the underside of said movable member and adapted to engage with one ofthe apertures in said fixed plate, and a locking member in the form of a handle having a cam arrangement at one end and pivotally secured through the stud of said fixed member and adapted to detachably 3 retain the pin of said movable member in posi- REFERENCES CITED gli? with one 0f the apertures of said med mem' The following references are of record in the le of this atent:
