IMPROVEMENT IN TREADLE PoR SEWING-MACHINES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of thesme To allwhom'tt ma/y concern:
Be it known that I, ANNAWErssENBORN, of the city of New York, in the county of .New York, and State'of NeWYork, have invented a new and useful Applicationy to Foot-Steps, or Treadles, for Sewing-Machines, consisting of India rubber; land I db hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in Which- Figure 1 is a Vtop View or plan of the foot-step, or treadle. l l
Figure 2 is a side view of the saine.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures, i
My device consists of a piece of India rubber, which is bolted or glued, in the shapeof a sole of alarge-sized foot, upon the top part of the foot-step, or treadle of a sewing-machine.l Any other mechanical contriy/ance for securing the same to the top part of the foot-steps, by means of rivets or sewing or binding th`e same to the Afoot-steps, may be applied and arranged in such a manner that the same will be secured Vtothe foot-steps, or treadle, in a substantial manner.,
The application' of my India-rubber sole to the top part of the foot-seats, or treadle to sewing-machines, is a great advantage. ItY keeps the foot steady, and facilitates the labor of the sewer, in having an elastic or springing India-rubber sole between the lower partl Iof the feet and the foot-steps, or treadle of the sewingmachines.
ln order to enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, .I will give a full and exact description thereof.
As will be seeny from the drawing- 'A represents a topview and a side view.
B is an India-rubber sole, as shown in the two views, gs. 1 and 2, and are secured by bolts, rivets, or clamps, or fastened by glue or shellac to the top part of the treadle of any sewing-machine.
left foot, forming the treadle for the purpose of operating any sewing-machines.
F F are two holes, forca wrought-iron shaft, or' spindle, which rests in a journal on both sid'es of the treadle of the sewing-machine.
Gr is a jaw, with a pin, H, to secure a rod for operating the sewing-machine.
Having now fully described the nature of my invention Vlhat I desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The rubber secured upon the top of the treadle of sewing or any other machines, for the purpose as herein set forth.
