. UNITED STATES REUBEN RUBENS, OF LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND.
BILL-FILE Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 22, 1907'.
Application filed October 19,1906. Serial No. 339.598.
To all whom it may com-cm:
Be it known that I, REUBEN RUBENS, a subject of the King ofEngland, and a resident of 14 St. Johns Lane, Liverpool, in the county Palatine of Lancaster, England, watchmaker and jeweler, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Bill-File, of which the following is a speciiicationl This invention has reference to bill files, and has for its object to provide improvements in or in connection with that type of file in which the document holding device may be removed from the body of the file, and replaced.
I will describe my invention with the aid of the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a front view; Fig. 2 is a side view; and Fi 3 is a back view of an apron bill file provided with my improvements. Figs. 4, 5 and 6 are detached details. Figs. 7, 8, and 9 are front, side, and back views respectively of a modified construction; and Fig. 10 is a detail.
Referring now to the drawings, but more particu-. larly to the construction shown in Figs. 1 to 3, a represents the apron, and (1 the backboard of the file. c is a plate at the lower part of which is attached, say by riveting in a square or round hole, or by screwing, the curved rod or wire f; and at the upper part is riveted the rod or wire spring 9 provided with an aperture with which the projection it formed at the end of the rod f constitutes a file lock or catch. The end of spring 9 fits in cavity 1' of the curved rod f. As will be readily understood, and as clearly indicated in Fig. 8, the spring guard g is tensioned to spring inward from the rod f when released, thus leaving the tip of the rod unobstructed and permitting papers to be readily skewered thereon. The plate 0 is temporarily held on the front of the backboard b by means of the screws d which are secured to a loose plate d, by wing nuts e. The screws pass through holes provided for them in the backboard b and plate 0.
Referring now more particularly to Figs. 7 to 10 of the drawings plate 0 is temporarily clamped to the file by means of the heads d of screws :1 which pass through the file, and wing nuts 6 at the back. j (Fig. 7) indicate grooves in the plate 0, which may be provided for the purpose of preventing the heads 03 of screws d from turning when the nuts are screwed tight. I prefer the projection it formed at the end of the curved rod f to be under-cut, as shown in Fig. 6.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A bill filo comprising a backboard, a plate removably overlying said backboard, screws and thumb-nuts securing said plate to said backboard, a bent bill-receiving rod and cooperating bent spring secured to said plate, and means at the top of the backboard and p1ate for suspending the file in an upright position.
2. A bill file comprising a backboard adapted to be supported in an upright position, a plate overlying said backboard, means for removably securing said plate to said backboard, a bent bil1-rcceiving rod and cooperating bent spring guard secured to said plate, and an apron hinged to the top of said backboard and arranged to hang down over the face of said backboard and plate.
A bill file comprising a backboard adapted to be supported in an upright position, a plate removably overlying said backboard, screws passing through said backboard and having heads overlapping the edges of said plate, tlnunbnuts adapted to screw on the other ends of said screws and to bear against the reverse side of the backboard, and a bent bill-receiving rod and cooperating bent spring secured to said plate.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
REUBEN RUBENSv Witnesses JOHN H. WALKER, JOHN STEVENS.
