Description
A. Z. NEFF.
cLAsPs Fon. ATTACHING STRAPS To HORSE-BLANKETS. No. 187.888.
Patented Feb. 27, 1877.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEr ANDREW Z. NEFF, OF AMSTERDAM, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLASPS FOR ATTACHING STRAPS T0 HORSE-BLANKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 187,888, dated February 27, 1877; application filed August 30, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW Z. NEFF, of Amsterdam, in the county of Montgomery and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improved Device for Attaching and Detaching Straps to Horse Blankets 5 and 1 do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part ot' this specication, in which- Figure 1 is a plan of one of the concaveconvex pieces, showing the perforations and the loop or ring attached to and forming one and the same piece by casting together. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through the line a: w of Fig. 1, showing, when attached to a piece of fabric, the plate A, having the loop or ring m and the central hole to receive the screw, all cast in one and the same piece, the oppo site plate A', with the nut o and the screw D.
The nature of my invention consists in the use of circular disks of equal diameters, each of which is made concave, and provided with perforations, substantially as shown in the drawings. One of these disks is provided in the center, on the concave or inner side, with a nut, o, cast upon and with the same piece, said nut being threaded to receive a screw.
The other disk or concave plate is provided with a loop or ring at one side, as shown, (see Fig. 1,) to receive the strap or snap attached to a strap, and having a central hole to receive a screw, the whole being cast together rigid in one and the same piece.
The concave edges of each disk or plate is rounded, so as not to present a sharp corner or cutting-edge, which would bite or chafe by use the fabric to which it was attached.
ln using the rigid cast clamping-plates A and A', they are placed opposite each other, upon the two sides of the fabric E, with their concave sides inward, as seen in Fig. 2, and a screw, D, is inserted through the central hole in the plate A, and passed through the fabric E, and screwed into the threaded nut of the opposite plate A'.
By this means the two plates are clamped tightly together upon the cloth, and thus take a lirm hold without injury thereto.
After the plates are thus secured by the screw D, a coarse thread or cord, or a simple string of lacing-leather, is passed alternately through the perforations in each plate, and the fabric and the ends fastened, thereby preventing the loss of' one or each ot' a pair in case the screw D should become unscrewed and fall out.
The advantages of my invention consist in making each concavo-convex plate of castirou, casting therewith in one piece the nut o and plate A', and casting the ring or loop m and plate A all in one and the same piece, each being provided with the perforations c, so that they may be stitch-ed at pleasure to prevent losing.
By this mode of manufacture or construction the clamps can be more cheaply furnished to the public, and are particularly adapted to receive and apply to my horse-blanket adjuster, (Patent No. 124,506, dated March l2, 1872,) to which this is supplementary.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the clamping-plate A, having the loop or ring m and perforations c, cast in one and the same piece, with the plate A', having the corresponding perforations c and the screw-threaded nut o, adapted to be united by the screw and lacing, substantially as and for the purposes specitied.
ANDREW Z. NEFF.
