Description
C. W. BAKER.
ROPE BUCKLE. APPLIUATIOH Hmm nov. 4. 1904.
Wtgesses;
PATBNTED 00T. 1, 1907.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES W. BAKER, OF PAW PAW, MICHIGAN.
ROPE-BUCKLE.'
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES W. BAKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at the village of Paw Paw, county of Van Buren, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rope-Buckles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in rope buckles. It relates particularly to improvements in rope buckles of the class illustrated and described in LettersPatent No. 549,096, issued to me on November 5, 1895; and No. 511,576, issued Dec. 26, 1893, and is in some respects modification and improvement thereon.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved rope buckle whichis very simple and economical in structure and durable and convenient to use.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means pointed out in the following specilication. The invention is clearly delined'and pointed out in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1. is a detail plan view of a structure embodying the features oi my invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation view of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken, on a line corresponding to line 3 3 o Figs. 1 and 2, looking in the direction oi the little arrows at the ends of the section lines. Fig. 4 is an inverted perspective view ot' thel tongue B before the same is applied to the loop.
Referring to the drawing, I provide a main loop A having an eye extension A/ at one end to which the rope, as 1, is secured.
The loop A is oblong in form. A pivot a is l'ormed in v one side of the loop A and a pair of separate and distinct lugs a projecting outwardly at each end of the journal. The tongue B is arranged transversely across the loop A. The tongue B is provided with a pair of downwardly projecting llexible lingers b adapted to be clamped about the pivot a. The tongue B is provided with laterally projecting lugs b at its pivot end. These lugs are adapted to engage the said outwardly projecting shoulders or stops a on the loop when the tongue is in a substantially vertical position.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 1, 1907.
Application iled November 4, 1904i Serial No. 231,440.
In use, the eye of the rope containing the buckle is passed around the object to which it is to be secured, and the rope is then doubled or kinked and pushed through the loop A from the under side. When the rope is inserted sutliciently far to permit, the tongue is dropped down under the kink in the rope and the rope drawn down upon the same, as indicated in Figs. l and 2. This holds the tongue in place and securely retains the rope in its adjusted position.
By arranging and forming the parts as I have illustrated and described, I am enabled to produce a very strong and durable rope buckle at a very nominal cost. The'same is also very convenient to use, as the tongue is supported by the stops or shoulders a. so that it never drops down underneath the buckle. This insures the proper arrangement of the rope therethrough. By this arrangement of stops af, the buckle loop can be readily cast in the proper lorm and the casting cleaned in a tumbling barrel so that no further attention need be given it,land the parts will be readyto assemble when they have been thus properly cleaned in a tumbling barrel.
I desire to remark that my improved rope buckle has a great variety o uses. It is very convenient'. lor use as a hammock rope and in`connection with. guy ropes for tents and the like, and is, in fact, adapted for use in any relation where a quickly adjusted and secure fastening is desired.
H ving thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a rope buckle, the combination of a main loop, oblongl in form, provided with an eye extension at one end, the central portion of said main loop on one side being reduced to a cylindrical journal to form a tongue pivot and having` laterally and outwardly projectingseparated stop lugs at each end of said tongue pivot; a tongue arranged trai-.sversely across said loop und provided with malleable fingers which embrace said pivot and provided with lateral projections to engage the said stop lugs on the loop. coactingr for the purpose specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal vin presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES W. BAKER. [L.s.]
