In the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specification I show in detail one form of embodi-4 ment of the invention which, to enable those skilled in the art to practice the same, will be set forth in de'- tail in the following description, While the novelty of the invention will be included in the claims succeeding said description.
Referring to said drawings: .Figure 1 is a perspective v view of said wrench. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a detail view in perspective of the pawl shown in the preceding figures, and operating spring therefor.

Thev wrench shown involves in its make-up a shank and preferably are as usual integral.
The movable or slidable jaw is denoted by 4 and it is 'provided with a sleeve as 5 inclosing and longitudinally movable upon the shank or main portion-2.
t The shank 2 is shown as having throughout its entire length the groove or channel 6 in which is represented as endwise-movable the normally-stationary rack-bar 7, ihe teeth of which are engageable by one or more teeth on the pawl or detent 8. 1. A wrench embodying a shank having a fixed jaw and also having a longitudinally disposed channel, a rack-har fitted in said channeln'fol' endwlse movement, a thiniblelike nut tlnjeaded onto the outer end of the shank and op eiative for moving the' rack-hai` in an end-wise direction, a slidahle jaw on the shank; a pawl movahlewlth the sildahle jaw and badapted to engage the toothed poi-tion of the rack-hai', and a series of anti-friction rollers hearing against the bottom ofthe said nut and also bearing against the oui'ei` end of said rack-bar.

A wrench embodying a shank provided with a fixed jaw, a rack-bar movably con'nected with said shank, u slidahie jaw on said shank, a'pawl on the slidabie jaw to engage the teeth of the i'ack-ha\., a nu't in threaded relation with the shank for imparting an advancing movement to said bar, and a `rod connected with the nut, extending lon gitudinaliy of said rack-bar, and provided with 4a lateral offset, the shank having a longitudinal slot to receive said offset.
