Description

No. 866,165. PATENTED SEPT. 17, 1907.
STEWART. STOVBPI'PE HOLDER.
nruoynou rum) APE.8.1907.
WWW ULIVER STEWART I noun: l-rrnls cc, Insnmamn o c OLIVER STEWART, OF OENTRALIA, ILL INOIS.
STOVEPIPE-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
- Patented Sept. 17,1907.
Application filed April 3,1907. Serial No- 367,012.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OLIVER STEWART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gentralia, in the county of Marion and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stovepipe-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such. as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to stove pipe fasteners, and has for its object to provide a device of this kind which can be adjusted so as to be connected with the flue opening into a chimney or collar therefor, and have the stove pipe secured in said hole so as to be virtually immovable in either direction.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a holder in operative position; and Fig. 2 is a perspec tive view of the clamping members separated.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates the main clamping member of my improved holder which has its inner end provided with two shoulders, 2 and 3, and its outer end provided with perforations, 4.
Adjustably mounted upon the perforated or outer end of the member 1 is another clamping member, 5, which has one end formed into a loop or collar, 6, for encircling the perforated end of the member 1 and its free end bent up to form a clamp, v'7. A pin or lug, 8 is provided which is adapted to engage with any of the perforations, 4, and hold the jaws, 3 and 7, in engagement with the inner and outer sides of the chimney or wall, 9, after they have been forced into said engagement.
A band, l0, preferably of wire, encircles the pipe, 11., at any convenient point, preferably at the bend, or shoulder, and has a wire, 12, connected therewith, as by means of the eye, 13, the other end of said wire being connected with the outer end of the member 1 as by being passed through the outer perforation and formed into a hook as shown at 14. The two shoulders upon the inner end of the member, 1, can be formed in any desired manner, as by bending the plate, 1, at substantially right angles as shown at 15 to form the upturned end or shoulder 3 and securing a separate piece 16 thereto with its upper end terminating below the upperend of 3 and having its lower end extended down below the plate 1 to form the shoulder 2 for engaging with the inner end of the stove pipe.
By constructing a stove pipe holder in the above manner, it can be very cheaply formed from flat material, and it can be quickly applied to different sized walls by inserting the inner end through the collar or stove pipe hole and placing its inner jaw in engagement with the inside of the wall and then forcing the movable jaw into engagement with the outer surface of the wall and securing it in that position by means of the pin in the movable jaw, which readily passes through the perforation in the Hat stem. clamping members or jaws are preferably slightly curved toward each other and sharpened, as shown at 17, to assist in holding them in position. After that has been done the band, 10, is placed over the pipe and the free end of the wire 12 drawn through the end of the plate, 1, which draws the inner end of the pipe against the shoulder at the inner end of the holder and thereby holds the pipe in the desired position.
Having described my invention, I claim:
In a stove pipe holder, a plate having one end perforated and the other end upturned to form a shoulder for engaging with the wall, a piece of material secured to said upturned end, having its upper end terminating near the tip thereof and its lower end extending far enough below the plate to form a shoulder for beingengaged by the end of the pipe, a bent clamping member on the per forated end of the plate for engaging with the wall with one end and having a loop on the other end for encircling the plate and provided with a shoulder for entering said perforations, and flexible'moans connected with said perfora ted end of the plate and adapted to be secured to the pipe.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
OLIVER STEWART.
