ASpecnlficaton of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 17, 1907.
Application iiled March 21, 1907. Serial No. 363,573.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM I-I. BAKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bridgeport,l county of Fairlield, State of Connecticutuhave invented a new and useful'Meat-Tenderer, of which the following is a specification. p i
This invention has ier its object to provide a meat tenderer which shall be strong, durable and equal in elicieucy to any oi the same class new upon the market and which shall be so simple and inexpensive to produce as to permit of its being retailed for ten cents with a fair profit both to the manufacturer and dealer.
With this end in view I have devised a meat ten derer consisting only of cutter strips, two end plates l5 and a wire handle.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, Figure l is an elevation of my novel tenderer; Fig. 2 an end view; Fig. 3 a section on the line 3 3 in Fig. l; Fig. 4 an elevation of one'of the end disks detached; and Fig.` 5 is an elevation of one of the cutter plates, detached. Fig. 6 represents a detail section on line 6 6 oi Fig. Z.
l0 denotes the cutter head and Il the handle. The
cutter head consists simply of a plurality of cutter 25 strips, indicated by l2, and two end plates, indicated by I3. Each cutter strip comprises a series of cutting teeth, indicated by 14, and an attaching lug l5 at each end of the strip. The end plates are provided with central holes, indicated by IG, and with radial slots, indicated by 17, which receive the attaching lugs. In assembling, the cutter strips are placed radially between the end plates. The attaching lugs are made slightly longer than the thickness of the end plates and engage the radial slots closely, the ends of the cutter strips abutting against the end plates. The ends of the attaching lugs are then headed down (see Fig. 6) locking the cutter strips to the end plates and forming astrong and rigid cutter head which will stand the strain of use for practically an unlimited length of time.
The handle consists of a piece of relatively heavy wire bent at its mid-length to form arms 18 which are shown as converging, although this is immaterial. Contiguous to the handle portion, the arms are bent outward to form a yoke 19 which receives and half 45 incloses the cutter head. The ends ofthe arms are in- Wardly turned forming hubs 20 which are sprung into the holes I6 in the end plates, the yoke preventing lateralmovement of the cutter head but without close i,
engagement therewith, so that the cutter head is left free to rotate on the hubs.
`having a central hole and a plurality of radial slots to receive the attaching lugs, said lugs being headed down to lock the cutter strips and end plates together, and a handle engaging the holes in the end plates.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature, in presence 0f G0 two witnesses.
W'ILLIAM Il. BAKER.
