RUDOLF KNOLL, OF VIENNA, AUSTRIA-HUNGARY.
TE LE PHONE-MOUTHPIECE Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 1'7, 1907.
Application filed August 11,1905. Serial No. 273,808.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RUDoLF KNOLL, chemist, a citizen oi the Empire of Austria-Hungary, residing at Vienna, Austria-llungary, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in and Connected with Telephone-Monthpieces, of which. the lollowing is a specilication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to mouth pieces for telephones, and has for its object to provide an improved form of mouth piece device in which the mouth piece can be readily removed and replaced when desired; and which l'urthermore can be rotated to raise and lower the mouth piece to different elevations relative to the sound box or membrane chamber.
In the accompanying drawing, representing one embodiment of my invention, Figure 1 is a view partly in side elevation and partly in section of a sound box and portion of a mouth piece member. Fig. 2 is a similar view being wholly in side elevation; and Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the same, showing in the broken lines positions to which the mouth piece member can be rotated.
The diaphragm box 71 is provided with a short tube is externally threaded, the tube being connected with the sound box by a cover 9. A spring member a is provided comprising a tube having one end internally threaded and screwed onto the threaded tube This member a is provided with a flange portion 0 and a tubular portion (Z containing slots 0.
The mouth piece member or has a tube at suitably secured at one end which tube is provided with a flange o. The flange is bent inwardly at 1' and contains serrations forming a series of spring tongues as shown in Fig. 2. When the mouth piece is to be attached, the tube member at is slid on over the tube d of the'diaphragm box, and the spring tongues of the flange 1) spring outward to pass the flange c, and then spring inward to tightly grasp this flange and retain the mouth piece in position. The mouth piece is now seated rotatably and removably on the diaphragm box, and the elevation ol' the mouth piece can be raised or lowered by simply rotating the tube in. The mouth piece can be readily removed by pressure tending to spring outward the spring tongues of the flange c.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim:
1. In a mouth piece for telephones, the combination with the diaphragm box and the mouth piece member, one of said members being provided with an annular flange and the other member being provided with spring tongues arranges to spring over the flange when the members are pressed together to rotatably support the mouth piece on the homer, one of the members also having a tubular portion having slots extending inwardly from its outer end, said tune being fitted into the other member to support the Saint.
2. 111 a mouth piece for telephones, the combination with the diaphragm box of a tube secured thereto and provided with an annular flange, and also provided with, a tubular portion projecting beyond the flange and having its extremitysiottod, the mouth piece member being arranged to slide on over the slotted tubular portion of the diaphragm box, and also provided with spring tongues arranged to spring over the annular flange of the diaphragm member to secure the mouth piece rotatably and removably to the oiaphragm member.
3. In a mouth piece for telephones, the combination with the diaphragm box of a tubular member screwed thereto and having its outer end slotted and provided with an annular flange at an intermediate portion, the mouth piece member being provided with a tubular portion ar ranged to slide over the slotted portion of said tube, and also provided with spring tongues arranged to spring over said annular flange. whereby to removably and rotatably retain we mouth piece on the diaphragm member.
In testimony whereof I hereunto ailix my signature in presen e of two witnesses.
RUDOLF KNOLL.
Witnesses Fniunuioii Brxnun, Anvmvro S. Hoeun.
