PROTECTING-DIAPHRAGM FOR TE' LEPHONE-TRANSMITTERS- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 774,929, dated November 15, 1904,
' Application filed October 28, 1908. Serial No. 178,953. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM M. BASHLIN, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Warren, in the county of Warren and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Protecting-Diaphragms for Telephone-Transmitters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to protecting-diaphragms for telephone-transmitters; and it consists in certain improvements in the construction thereof, as will be hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings as follows.
Figure 1 shows a side elevation of a telephone-transmitter, part of the mouthpiece being broken away to better show construction; Fig. 2, a plan View. of the attaching-ring.
A marks the telephone-transmitter; A, the mouthpiece. A diaphragm C is secured over the opening in the mouthpiece by a ring The ring B is provided with lugs 71, which are bent inwardly for engaging the"edge of the mouthpiece. One oiflthe lugs is preferably provided with a screw"&". The ring also has its inner edge crimped in. at '6, so as to draw The diaphragm C may be made from any suitable material, so
as to make a light sensitive film. It prevents the lodgment ofdisease-germs in the mouthpiece and may be frequently renewed, so as to keep it ina sanitarycondition. ,It;also protects the parts forming the active elements of the telephone-transmitter, especially from the moisture of the breath.
What I claim as new is- 1. In combination with atelephone-transinitter having a mouthpiece; a removable protecting-diaphragmarranged over the opening in the mouthpiece and means forstretchiug and clamping the protectingdiaphragm about theedge of the mouthpiece.
2. In combination with a telephone-transmitter having a mouthpiece; a ring engaging.
the edge of the mouthpiece and forming a means for securing the diaphragm on the mouthpiece, said ring being provided with an attaching-screw bl; and the diaphragnru'emovably secured to the transmitter bysaid ring. v
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
