To all whom it may concern:

' Be it known that I, JOHN LYNCH, a citizen of the Y United States, and a resident of Trenton, in the county of Mercer and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Clothes-Line Support, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.-

This invention relates to mountings for clothes lines, and is designed to provide means for enabling a line to be adjusted at a height convenient for a person standing on the ground, so as to enable 'clothes to be readily placed thereon, and then hoisted out of reach, so that the yard may be clear of the clothes, and the clothes elevated above the fences oi the yard intothe free atmosphere, where they will become quickly and thoroughly aired and dried. Such objects I accomplish by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which i Figure 1 is a side elevation of a device embodying my invention; and Fig. 2 is a plan v-iewof the same.

These cables are preferably provided witha link section 12, by means of which the cables may be connected As illustrated in the drawings, the clothes lines are with pad-locks 13 secured to the standards 1, and thereby prevent the lines from being raised and lowered. Handcables 14 are also attached to the sliding blocks, to lower the lines when desired. The hoisting cables 10 and lowering cables llmay be secured to cleats 15 attached to the standards 1, so as to secure the iincs at any desired elevation.

By reason of the vertical adjustment of the lines, the clothes may be safely left on the lines over night without danger of their being removed therefrom by persons not entitled to do so, and elevated above the fences ofthe yard, thereby enabling them to be quickly and thoroughly aired and dried.

Havlng thus described my invention I claim as new and desire. to secure by Letters Patent:

1. In 'a clothes line support, the combination of vertical standards, guide bars secured to said. standards, blocks slidable lengthwise on said guide-bars, arms pivot ally attached to said blocks, hooks pivoted to said blocks for locking said arms in position, pulleys attached to the upper end of said standards, and cables attached to said bars and passing over said pulleys;

2. In a clothes line support, the combination with a vertical standard, of a vertical guide bar secured to said standard, a block having a sliding engagement with said guide bar, an arm pivotally attached to said block, hooks pivoted to said block for locking said arm in position, 8. pulley attached to the upper endof said arm, and a cable passing over said pulley. 3. In a clothes line support, the combination of a vertical standard, a guide bar having offset ends secured to said standard, a block provided with staples engaging said guide bar, a cross arm pivotally mounted on said blocks, hooks pivoted to said blocks for holding said arm in position,. a pulley attached to the upper end of said standardyand a cable attached to said block, and passing over said pulley.
