FRANK A. WILDASON, OF EATON, INDIANA.
CHILDS FOLDING CQT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 10, 1907.
Application filed April 11,1906. Serial No. 311,178.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK -A. WILDAsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Eaton, in the county of Delaware and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Childs Folding Cot, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a childs folding cot in which the several parts are so arranged and constructed, that by the means of hinge joints on each section, the same can be folded together with all the movable parts or pieces inclosed within the outside frame; and, to afford a cot which folds so completely that it can be carried from place to place in an ordinary trunk, so that while even away from home the child can sleep alone.
Figure l, is a side view of the cot showing the adjustable legs and section of the side railing; Fig. 2, an end view; Fig. 3, a top view showing the manner in which the side railing sections, the end railings and the adjustable legs are folded under; showing the two sections of the body and the manner in which they are attached to the bed railing; Fig. 4, is a perspective view of the cot set up and attached to a bed as in actual use..
The rods E F D N a form the body of one section of the cot of which there are two, making a hinge joint at the bolt t, passing through the tube N; this constitutes the body of the cot. The legs B B are adjustable by means of set screws S S, and are let into the lockknuckles d d, d d, which turn on the rods a a. The side railings R R are supported by the standards 2' 'i, ii,which turn on the rods a a, at b b, b b, as shown by dotted lines g. (See Fig. 2). The end railings k it (see Fig. 2 & 3) are supported by the standards 9' j, j j, which turn on the rods E E, at p p, p p, as shown by the dotted lines 1. (See Fig. 1). To the rods F F any spring fabric desired can be used and attached; this is not shown in'the drawings and forms no part of my invention. On the rods D D (see Fig. 2 & 3) are fastened four spring clamps c o, 00, which are incased in rubber tubing and clamped onto the bed railing G. The spring clamp E q, (see Fig. 1 & fl) having a slot 0, takes the position of the dotted lines E on the side railings R R; the key e, passes through the spring clamp E q, in slot 0,. The length between the shoulders on key a, being slightly less than the distance cross-sectionally through E q at slot 0; therefore as E q is sprung, the key 0, drops down in slot 0, and is held firm by the recoil of the spring E q. When the cot is folded the spring clamp E q, can be sprung onto one of the rods of side railings R R. The side and end railings R R, and k k, are held together when in use by the hooks H H. (See Fig. l, 2 & 4). i
The objects of my invention which I wish to bring out are best illustrated in Fig. 3, the two sections of the cot E F D N a, E F D N a, formerly mentioned, each are composed of a rod F, an adjustable leg B, a side and end railing R, is; Fig. 3, shows the manner in which the cot is attached to the bed railing G, and the manner in which the movable parts are folded, as follows: First, the adjustable legs B B, (see Fig. 2) move upward toward the bottom of the cot turning on rods (1 a; second, the side railing sections R R, (see Fig. 2) move from the top downward passing through an arc of 270 degrees on rods a a; third, (see Fig. 1) the end railings k it, move in a similar manner to railings R R. In order to fold the cot up to the minimum size (see Fig. 3) the two sections E F D N a, E F D N a, fold together from the top downward at the hinge formed at t, inclosing all movable parts together with the cot spring between the rods F F; the minimum size being equal to one half of the length of the cot by its width.
, For the sake of clearness in the drawings, no decorations for the side and end railings R R, and k k, are shown, it being understood that they may be supplied and designed according to manufacturers ideas.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A childs cot having two end rails at each end, one lower than the other, and an end frame pivotally mounted on the lower end rail and, when upright, bearing against the upper end rail, whereby the end frame will be prevented from falling in upon a child in the cot and can be folded under against the bottom of the cot.
2. A child's cot including side rails with the ends thereof turned down, an end rail extending between the turned down ends of said side rails so as to be on a lower level than said side rails, an end rail extending between said side rails near the ends thereof on a higher level than the previously mentioned end rails, and an end frame pivotally mounted on the lower end rail and, when upright, bearing against said upper end rail, substantially as set forth.
A childs cot including side rails with the ends thereof turned down, an end rail extending between the turned down ends of said side rails so as to be on a lower level than said side rails, an end rail extending between said side rails near the ends thereof on a higher level than the previously mentioned end rail, an end frame pivotally mounted on the lower end rail and when upright bearing against said upper end rail, a side frame pivoted on the side rail so as to fold under and against the bottom of the cot along with the end frame, and releasable means for connecting the end and side frames when in their upright position, substantially as set forth.
-Li. A childs cot including side rails with the ends thereof turned downward, an end rail extending between the turned down ends of said side rails so as to be on a lower level than said side rails, an end rail extending between said side rails near the ends thereof on a higher level than the previously mentioned end rail, an end frame pivotally mounted on the lower end rail and when upright bearing against said upper end rail, a side frame pivoted on the side rail so as to fold under and against the bottom of the cot along with the end frame, releasable means for con necting the end and side frames when in their upright position, means for attaching one side rail of said cot to a bed railing or the like, a leg pivotally mounted on the other side rail thereof so as to fold in under against the bottom of the cot, and means on said side rail for stopping and locking the leg when it is turned to its desired position.
5. A child's cot consisting of two similarly constructed end halves or sections pivoted in the middle so that the two sections thereof can fold upon each other, and a leg or support pivotally mounted with the side rail of each sec- I a side frame pivoted on the side rail so as to fold under 15 tion at the side of the cot and adapted to fold under and against the bottom of said section, substantially as set forth.
6. A childs cot consisting of two similarly constructed end'halves or sections pivoted in the middle so that the two sections thereof can fold upon each other, each section including side rails with the ends thereof turned downward, an end rail extending between the turned down ends of said side rails so as to be on a lower level than said side rails, an end rail extending between said side rails near the ends thereof on a higher level than the previously mentioned end rail, an end frame pivotally mounted on the lower end rail and when upright bearing against said upper end rail,
and against the bottom of the cot along with the end frame, releasable means for connecting; the end and side frames when in their upright position, means for attaching one side rail of said cot to a bed railing or the like, a leg pivotally mounted on the other side thereof so as to fold in under against the bottom of the cot, and menus on said side rail for stopping and locking the leg when it is turned to its desired position.
