Description

L. W. PALMER. CIGAR WRAPPER CUTTER. APPLIOATION IILED DBO. 21. 1906.
PATENTED AUG. 20, 1907.
UNITED STATES PATENT @FTGE.
LAMAR W. PALMER, OF- BEVERLY, NEW JERSEY.
CIGAR-WRAPPER CUTTER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LAMAR W. PALMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beverly, in the county of Burlington and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cigar-Wrapper Cutters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a cutter adapted to be used especially in cutting cigar wrappers. These wrappers are cut by hand, the cutting operation usually being periormed by means of a blade or a lzniie held in the right hand of the operator. This cutter is also adapted to be held in the hand and is a substitute for the blade now ordinarily in use.
The invention consists of the novel features of construction hereinafter described pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side view of the device; Fig. 2 is a section on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
In these drawings, A represents a U-shaped strip and B a cutting wheel journaled between the side members of the strip A, which is of brass or other suitable metal and the wheel B is held in placeby a short bolt 0 and a nut G. A fiat guard plate D is cut out between its ends and upon its lower edge, as shown at D to receive substantially the upper half Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 21,1906. Serial No. 348,923.
Patented Aug. 20, 1907.
of the wheel B. The plate D is held in the bow portion of the U-shaped member A, and in order that the device may be readily held in the hand without discomfort a supplemental hand guard plate E which is bent longitudinally upon itself is fitted over the bow-portion of the U-shaped member A and also over the upper edge of the flat guard plate D, both the guard plates D and E being held by suitable rivets.
Having thus described my invention what I desire to secure by Letters Patent 0]": the United States is l. A device of the kind described comprising a II-shaped member, a cutting wheel journaled between the sides of said U-slmped member, a guard plate cut out to receive a portion of the wheel and secured between the sides of said U-shaped member at a point above the wheel, and a hand guard carried by the bow-portion of the II-shaped member and by the first mentioned guard plate.
2. A device of the kind described, comprising a II-shaped member, a cutting; wheel journaled in the lower portion of said member, a flat guard plate cut out between its ends and fastened midway its ends in the bow-portion of the U-shaped member, and a hand guard consisting of a plate bent longitudinally upon itself and secured upon the bow-portion of the U-shaped member and covering the upper edge of the flat guard plate.
