Patented Aug. 1, 1838.
No. 86g.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE FABER, OF CANTON, OHIO/ MANUFACTURE OF CARDS FOR CARDING COTTON, WOOL, 8w.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 863, dated August 1, 1838.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE FABER, of Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Card; and that the following is a full and exact description thereof: to wit:
a I out wood into veneers from one eighth to three sixteenths of an inch in thickness, in length from 4 to 8 inches, and in breadth four inches which are steeped in water for the purpose of softening, a veneer is then placed in a frame attached to a machine in common use by means of which, the wire of which the teeth are formed, is drawn in, cut in suitable lengths, bent in staple form, and during this process the perforations are made in the veneer by tWo piercing needles attached to, and forming part of the aforesaid machine. The teeth formed as above are by the same machine inserted into the veneer as may be seen in the accompanying specimen marked A. The veneer I call the foundation which when filled with teeth is nailed upon another piece of wood into which a handle is inserted forming that part which is commonly called and is the back.
That which I claim, and is my own invention, is
The veneer of wood pierced with holes (as above described) filled with wires forming teeth marked The back marked B I do not claim, neither do I claim the machine, though I have made improvements on it. Reference being had to the accompanying drawing will fully appear as also from the aforesaid specimen.
GEORGE FABER.
