MODE or MAKING CURRYcoMBs.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 997, dated November 3, 1838.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, NATHAN IAL C. SANFORD, of the town of Meriden, in the county of New Haven, and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Common Horse Currycomb, and the same is described in the following specification and drawings.
Take two plates of sheet iron of the size of a common horse ourrycomb and fasten them firmly together, face to face, and fix on them a handle; through one of these plates, which I call the under one, make five parallel openings at equal distances from each other, running nearly across the plate, as is represented in drawing Aand with the handle, as in drawing B, which openings must be large enough to receive the head of a wooden comb of the size as Y in drawing'B at a, s'o one plate may be used as well as two; in which case the combs are fixed in, in the same manner exceptthey do not rest on any opposite plate, but two platesare better. So Vtoo the body of the comb may be made of wood, as represented in drawing E, in which case the combs eX- tend the whole width of the wood `and are fitted into it by small grooves and `there nade iii-m, but the iron plates I have found vest.
