To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, EMMETT F. DWYER and JAMES V. OoNNnn, citizens of the United States, residing at, respectively, Lima and Cadiz, in the counties of Allen and Harrison, respectively, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet- Seats for Children, of which the following is a specification.

This invention comprises a novel form of auxiliary seat for attachment to the customary closet seat and particularly for traveling purposes, to overcome the inconveniences incident to the use of such seats for children by reason of the provision of the large seat openin in important feature of the invention is comprised in the construction of the auxiliary seat whereby the same may be collapsed in order that it will occupy a minimumamount of space in a traveling bag or satchel so as not to be in the way, the invention, however, being so constructed as to be quickly applied and removed.

Another feature of the invention resides in the fact that the same is sanitary in all respects.

For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view showing the invention as when applied to the closet seat such as ordinarily employed on railway cars, vessels, and the like. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the seat, parts arranged as when in operative position. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the seat frame with the cover removed. Fig. 4 is a view similar .to Fig. 3 showing the supporting arms of the seat frame folded.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in'all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.

In carrying out the invention a suitable frame 1 is employed and said frame is preferably of a somewhat oval form and of a size suitable for use by children. The frame 1 is, of course, open but is provided with a cover 2 detachably secured thereto and preferably made of fabric material so that it may be readily folded and in order to subserve the sanitary feature of the invention, said cover being adapted to be washed whenever necessary and after removal thereof from the frame 1. The covering 2 is provided with a suitable opening 3 substantially of the same contour and size as'the frame as ordinarily employed for glove fasteners as they are very convenient and admit of ready attachment and detachment of the cover to the frame 1. The frame 1 is adapted to be supported upon the closet seat 7 by means of arms 8 pivoted at one end, as shown at 9, to the frame. The arms 8 are adapted for adjustment so as to project laterally or outwardly from the frame 1 to engage with the portions of the closet seat surrounding the closet opening and thus support the frame in operative position with respect to the closet seat opening. The arms 8 are preferably curved to form downwardly projecting extensions -10 which form stops to centralize the frame 1 or auxiliary seat with respect to the closet seat opening. The extensions 10 may be formed by bending the arms 8 at a point intermediate the ends thereof.

From the foregoing it will be readily noted that when the auxiliary seat comprising this invention is not in use, the arms 8 may be adjusted so as to project inwardly from the sides of the frame 1 and the cover 2 may beso' folded about the frame as to reduce the auxiliary seat to a convenient size for traveling purposes. As shown in Fig 2 the outer ends of the arms 8 may be covered by suitable means preferably of fabric material so that said arms will not scratch or in any way mar the closet seat upon which the device may be disposed. I It will be understood that the arms 8, though having a pivotal connection at their inner ends with the frame 1, are

rigid relative to the frame so that when the auxiliary seat is in operative position, said arms will form rigid supporting means therefor.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. An auxiliary toilet seat of the class described, consisting of a frame, arms projecting from said frame to support the latter upon a closet seat, and a flexible cover provided with an opening coincident with the space surrounded by the frame and extending from-the frame over the arms aforesaid.

2. As a new article of manufacture, an auxiliary toilet seat of the class described, consisting of a frame and rigid arms movably' connected at the inner ends thereof with said frame to support the latter upon a closet seat, said arms being movable so as to project from the frame or occupy positions close to said frame.

3. An auxiliary toilet seat of the class described consisting of a frame, laterally extending rigid arms pivotally connected at the inner ends thereof to the frame, and movable so as to project from or be arranged in close contact with the frame, said arms being bent intermediate of their ends to provide downward extensions to centralize the frame when in operative position, and a cover having a central opening and attached to the frame and the arms thereof, as specified.

4. An auxiliary toilet seat for traveling purposes, comprising a frame, lateral arms for supporting said frame in the seat opening of an ordinary closet seat, and a detachable cover for said frame'arranged to extend over said arms. 1

5.
