BUILDING-BLOCK.
No. ses''es.
VSpecification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 1 3, 1907.
Application tiled January 26. 1905. Serial No. @12,808-
. and State of lilichigan, have invenicd a new and useful l-uilding-lilock, of lwhich the following isa specification.
This invention relates to building blocks.
The object of the invention l.; to provide a building block in which positive ventilation oi the Wall built from the same shall be secured, and further t0 providcl means for effecting uct-tirate junctures at. the. meeting edges of the tiers or courses oi blocks, thereby to preclude entrance ot' moisture to the nir spaces or ducts, and thus tofoliviate fill thtnger of damp walls.4
With the above and other objects in View, as will :tppenr as tite nature oi the invention is better understood, the sante consists, in the novel const ruction und combination ot' parts ot n building block, ns will be `hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings l'ortning'ttv part oi this specification, und in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts, Figure l is s View in perspective et' building block constructed in accordance with the pesent invention. Fig. 2 is n, plain view oi two blocks united end to end. Fig. 3 is un end View showing s plurality oi the bloel's assembled` rlhe block as shown in Fig. l consists oi a. plurality oi sections, in this instance three and designated l, 2 und il. 'lhese sections may be yof any contour thttt muy be desired, in this instance ree'tangular, and the sides and ends of the sections are provided with grooves 4 to receive the mortar when the blocks are assembled lor :t
` wall. thereby t0 yinsure n more intimate bond between the saine und also to present joints that shell be mois turc and water pioot, so thntthere will be no possibility ni waiter entering in between the blocks and thus cousing damp walls. The sect ions ure held spaced apart by webs 5 and lmli webs (i, there being shown twoof the Webs 5 between the sections l und 2, and one of the webs 5 between the sections 2 und 3 and spaced intermed inte ot' the ltirst named webs, the two hull webs G being disposed ttt thc ends ol' the sections 'l :tud it und forming in conjunction with n jnxtuposcd bloeit n cont inuous web. By disposing the web in thc manner shown, when snper-posed in the const rut-tion ot' n' wnll or other strncture, thc joints between the dit'lcrcnt tiers will be broken :is usual, but the nir spnccs or ducts 7 l'ormetl bctween the webs will be continutnts und uninterrupted throughout the wnll. ln order to st rcngthcn the webs und to brace the block against rcsistttncc to comprcssive force. the webs are torntcd nt their points oi juncture With the sections with bevebsidcs h'. termine1r broadened bnscs ttt. their points ol' juncture with th(` webs.
For ordinary ize building blocks. two ol` thc webs 5. between two o|` the sections, :ind one web 5 and two hitlll webs 5 between the other section ol the block is ull lhfttwill be necessary, but lor very hugc size building blot-lts, thc number ol' these parts muy bc increased, :ind ns this will be readily understood, detailed illustration thereof is deemed unnecessary.
llnvitrey thus described the invention, what is claimed tszeunnlly spaced ontI t'rotn another. connecting' webs between snid sections dividing: snid spaces into uit passages or ducts. c tcb web in any simcc being opposite thtI center ot' nu :'tit4 pnssnge or dut-t t l` lhc next ndjoining stint'e. the :trrztngenicnt of webs bein"r such vtlmt :il tbc ends ot' euch bloeit czlt'h ztltcrtntc siincc will be bridged by webs ot' onchult' the width of the tirs-t mentioned webs. the outer tures ot' snid bultwebs bciny; in the sonnplnne :is the end edges ot' suid ions. whiltl the ends ot' sztid webs und bult webs :tre dept-c ed so thnt when joint-d to other blocks intersectim.: nir ducts nrc formed.
ln testimony thut we claim tbel'orrgoinc, :ts our own we hure bcrcto :ttiixt-ll our sguuturcs in tho prt-sence of two witnesses,
