The invention. consists of the parts and the construction and combination of parts as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, having reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical section showing the construction of my oil burner. Fig. 2 shows a modification of same. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the base plate and'connections.
A represents the firebox or combustion chamber of an ordinary stove in which my burner is adapted to fit. 2 is a generator preferably of tubular cylindrical form open at the ends and removably clamped in position between the cap 3 and the cup-. haped member 4 the cap 3 and cup 4 having corresponding opposed annular grooves 5 to receive the corresponding ends of the generator tube or pipe 2. These grooves 5 arepacked with asbestos or other suitable packing to make' `thern oil and gas tight, and the parts are loc'ked toplate or'false door 7, as in Fig. 1, or it may be remqvably 4carried thereby, as in Fig. 2. The set screw 6. is arranged to bear against the cup 4 and in opposition to some suitable support for the cap 3.
' The support for the latter and set screw 6 may be the respective studs 8 -8 on the base plate 9 as in Fig. l,
or the cap 3 may be supported directly against the back end of the fire-box as in Fig. 2; the set screw in this case being carried by the end plat-e or false door 7 and adapted to bear against the flange or lugs on the cup 4.
A In the construction of the apparatus shown in Fig. 1, l employ a lengthwise corrugated base plate 9 with a rigid upward projection or bracket 8 in which the set screw 6 is threaded. The stud or bracket member 8 kwhich constitute the abutment or support for the rear end of the generator may be rigid with the base plate,

The further purpose of supporting the generator' at one end by a central projection as 11, is that it enables the generator to have a limited pivotal movement at the'rear end, in such fashion that the two end-closures 3 and 4 adapt themselves to each other and to the pipe section 2 and insure always a tight joint, irrespective of the inclination of the generator and irrespective of HWhether the ends of the pipe sections 2 are cut square in the first place or not. The set screw 6 or 6 acts in opposition to the support provided for the projection 11 to clamp the cap, cup and tube together.
1f the end plate or false door 7 is made integral with Athe' cup 4 as in Fig. 1-, it will ordinarily fit up against the stove just outside of the usual door in the end of the irebox.- Ii this plate or false door is made separate from the cup 4 as in Fig. 2, it will be arranged inside the irebox; the walls of the stove around the usual door opening forming a support for this plate or false door 7 against the action of the set screws 6. In Fig. 2 the walls of the combustion chamber and the plates 7l take the'place and fulfil the purpose of the parts 7-8-9 of Fig. 1. The principle of operation, however, of the apparatus shown in both constructions, is the same.
The end plates or false doors 7 are preferably indented or corrugated cross-wise at the top and bottom as shown at 12, so that they can quickly be fittedl to a door opening of any size; these end plates being of cast metal, it is asimple matter to break off one or more sections by means of a hammer.
The oil pipe 13 which may be connected with any suitable source o supply, extends underneath the plate 9 and then upward at the back of the rebox to discharge into the rear end of the generator through the cap 3. The gas which is formed in the generator passes out through a pipe 14 on the underside of cup 4 and outside ofthe firebox.
W15 is a gas valve arranged. in pipe 14 and regulating* the discharge of the generated :gas into the combusti/on chamberA. This valve has a ilat or polygonal needle point actingsas a reamer in the gas discharge' orifice to clear it ofall carbon deposits and incrustatihs, such as te`n`d to accumulate under the circumstances. Suitable air to effect proper combustion is admitted through the air draft openings around the valve.
16 is a firing pan which rests on a sheet of asbestos to separate it from the base plate 9 andlprotect thelunderneath oil feed pipe 13; the latter may alsoj-be'packed in asbestos, and a' check-valve 17 may be Vinterposed in thisoil pipe to avoid any danger of back flow oi the oil. The drip pan is of sucient size to t 'the rebox l l y loo and has a neck-portion 16 extending out through an opening in the end plate 7 and beneath the valve so as to catch any-drip therefrom.
If there-is any drip, the same is conducted' into the firebox and there consumed.
18 is a baffle or iiame spreader which may be oi any,
desired shape or placed in any desired position, and is designed for the purpose of directing the burning gases upward against the generator 2. In operation the oil entering through the feed-pipe 13 is delivered into the generator at the rear end thereof, whence it flows or Ward and toward the cup 4. If there is a fire in the rebox, the oil is quickly converted into a highly inammable gas and passes out of the generator through lalarming flow of gas when highly heated. Complete volatilization takes place in the generator tube,-Which latter may be easily lifted out and cleaned and replaced by simply operatingl the set-screw.
These burners may be made in any desired size or shape. i
The construction of the apparatus is extremely"sin1 v ple, with very few parts, and all quickly gotten at.

5. In an oil burning apparatus, the combination of o. base plate having vertical standards, and n generator ndjustnbly supported between said standards, said generator comprlsing, tubular section, a cap closing one end of the section .and having a central boss engaging indentations in one of said standards, u cup closing the opposite end of the generator, an end-plate connected with Suid cup, and a set-screw carried by the other standardand bearing having suitable inlet and outlet passages.
