Description

its
Meeres-e JOEL HAYDEN, JR., OF HAYDENVILLE, MASSACHUSETTS.
Let-ters Patent 'Na-86,225, lated .Tamm/ry 26, 1869.
IIMPROVEMENT IN EAU'CBTS.
To all whom it ma/y concern Be it known that I, JOEL HAYDEN, Jr., of Haydenville, Hampshire county Commonwealth oi'Massaehusetts, have invented a new and improved Faucet; and I do hereby declare that the followingis a full and clear description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters ofreference marked thereon.
In the drawings- Figure lis a side sectional View of my improved faucet; and
Figure 2 is a detailed View of a part thereof.
This invention consists of a new-and useful improved arrangement of parts, whereby a faucet is rendered more perfect in its operation, and less liable to get out of order.
In construction, I form my plugA with a cylindrical tapering face, and neck or stem, B, and the socket 01 barrel C for this plug is made with a closed bottom end, only1 opening at the top for the insertion of' .the
plug.
The top outside edge of this barrel is made with threads a, upon which screws a cap, D, fitting around the stem B of the plug.
A stop is made by setting in a pin, E, in the plug, at the height ofthe shoulder (Z of the barrel C, where the threads cease, and the metal being cut out oneqnarter of the circumference of the threaded edge of the barrel, this pin plays between the edges e and e of this f at, the saidedges forming the stop for the pin, and enabling the plug to be turned to justtlie proper positions to out otf completely, or gire free passage to the liquid, as may bc tic A coil-spring is placed around the neck of the plug atj, between the cap and the shoulder.
This spring G is compressed down when the cap D is screwed on in place, and assists iu packing the cap, as well as producing a friction, to prevent its being looscned.
A. vent, H, is made by means oi' a groove, g, running vertically the length ol the plug from top to bottom. This allows the Huid to out oil clean, without drip, as it'leayes a passage for the air to circulate from the top ofthe barrel through thenozzle, when the plug is turned oli".
By this means I obtain a neat and compact arrangement of parts, and a. very eiiective faucet.
Having. described my invention,
That I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the plug A, vent H, the pin E, land spring Gr, the cap D, and the socket O, the parts being arranged together and-constructd in the manner andfor the purpose herein described.
J. HAYDEN, JR.
