Description

. tion of the air-duct shown attached to said cham- EEIOE.
PATENT JOHN KNOOHE, OE ciNcINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN FAUCETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,326, dated June 27, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, JOHN KNooHE, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented an lm provement in Faucets, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to that class of faucets for which Letters Patent were issued to myself and Henry Varwig June 21, 1870; and my present improvement consists in a different arrangement ofthe spring which Operates lthe air-cock, said spring bein g so constructed as to be applied with greater facility and to permit the removal ofthe valve-chamber cap without disturbingI the spring.
The drawing is a perspective View of the airvalve chamber, with its cap removed and a porber.
The air-duct F, valve-chamber G G g, plug Jp arm K 7c, and pin P, being precisely similar to those described in the aforesaid patent, require no further description here. Projecting upward- 1y from the plug or valve J is a stem, lt, around which is coiled a helical spring, S, whose upper end engages with a slot, 1^, in the top of said stem, while its lower end bears against a pin, T,
having a horizontal projection, t, to prevent the detachment of said spring therefrom. The valvechamber G is provided with a male screw, U, which engages with a female screw, V, of the cap G. The spring S, being a simple helical one, can be manufactured cheaper than the volute spring' shown in my previous patent, besides which it is not disturbed by the removalof the cap. In my old faucet the spring wasattached both to thevalve-steln and also to the cap, and if at any time it became necessary to'remove the valve the spring had iirst to be detached either from said stem or cap; but with the present arrangement this difliculty is eiitirely obviated.V
I claim as my invention- The arrangement of plug J, stem R i", coiled spring S, and pin T, when used in connection witli the valve-chamber ,Gr and detachable cap G', as herein explained.
1n testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
- JOHN KNOCHE.
