JOHN H. BURKHOLDER, OF ASHLAND, OHIO.
DOOR-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 23, 1907.
Application filed December 13,1906. Serial No. 347,709.
To all whom it may concern: 1
30 it known that Jonx II. BUnKnoLm-m, a citizen of the United States, residingat Ashland, in the county of Ashland and State of Ohio, has invented new and useful Improvements in Door-H2 ngers ol' which the following is a specification. r
This invention relates to door hangers, and one of and reliable means for preventing the hanger from becoming disengaged from the track when the door is blown outward by the wind.
Another object is to provide simple and reliable means for supporting the tubular track for the hanger. These and other objects are attained by means of the' construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure l is a front; elevation of a door hanger embodying m'y improvements; and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same,.the tubular track being shown in section on the-plane indicated by the line 2-2 of Fig. l. The track 1 is here shown as tubular in form, with the longitudinal slot 2 in its lower side. Thehanger member 3 is formed with an arm 4 which is bolted or otherwise secured to the outerside olthe door and which projects above the some, with a casing 5 at the upper end of said arm which extends inwardly andlaterally therefrom and with'a hook ti which depends from the inner side )1 the casing and is curved toward the arm 4, the length o1- the said hook being such that. the width of .he space between its point and the inner face of tilt arm 4 is less than the outside diameter of the tubular track. A supporting wheel 7, is mounted in the casing on an axle 8, here shown as a bolt, and the lower side thcreolextends beltiw the lower open side of the casing, This wheel 7 is peripherally grooved or channeled to'fitthe curvature of the track 1, and the said wl' reel bears and travels on the said tubular track. It will be understood that since the width of .he space between the point of the hook and the proximate side of the arm of the hanger member less than the outside diameter of the tubular truck, tie hanger men, her is thereby pre-, vented from being :asually disengaged from the track by any verticalor lateral movement of the door.
'lhe l|':."k is supported by a plurality of brackets suitably "tmtgt'tl apart and secured tothe wall', above the dooru 1y of ti o barn or other structure on whichthe door tunger s employed. ()ne of these brackets is shown at I), and comprises a base portion 10 to be bolted or otherwise secured to the wall, an arm 11 which-projects outwardly therefrom, an upturned neck 12 at the outer end of said arm, and a head 13,-
at the upper end of said neck, and here shown as cylindrical in form and of such size as to fit in the bore of the tubular track, the neck extending radially through the slot in the lower side of the tubular track;
The neck 12 of the supporting bracket or member is bent or inclined toward the wall parallel or substantially so with the line of stress indicated by the plane bb of Fig. 2. When the door is in an inclined position such as it assumes when blown outwardly by the force of the wind, said bracket, greatly strengthened by said construction, is enabled to resist the strain exerted thereon caused by the blowing out of the door or other lateral stress to which it may be subjected;
The outward swinging or rocking movement of the dooris limited by the terminal of the hook 6 coming in contact with the neck l2 of the bracket 9, and the inward rocking thereof is limited by the inner face of the arm 4' coming in contact with the outer face of the neck 12.
Having thus describedmy invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is,-
1. In a door hanger, the combination of a cylindrical track and a hanger member comprising in its-eonstructi0n an'arm extending above the track and on one side thereof, and a hook constructed to extend partially around the opposite side of and under the track and to approach the arm of the hanger to within a distance less than the diameterof the track. 7
2 In combination with supporting means, and a cylindrical track mounted thereon, of a hanger member compl'ising an arm having a hook at one end constructed to extend partially around and under said track with the terminal thereof spar-ed from said arm a distance less than the diameter of the tra k, and a wheel rotatably supported V by said arm in position to engage said track.
it. In combination with a ,door hanger supporting track and a supporting member for the track having an upwardlyext nding inwardly-inclined neck portion, of a hanger member movably supported on said track and pro vlded with means for engaging said inclined track neck to limit the rocking movement of said banner on said track.-
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the'presence 01' two subscribing witnesses.
