To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, CHARLES S. DANIEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Melbourne, in the county of Ghehalis and State of Washington, have invented a new and useful Hand-Grip for Firearms, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in means whereby the barrel of a gun or other fire arm can be more conveniently held when taking aim.

The object is to provide a novel and simple device in the form of an attachment that can be readily applied to fire arms and held upon the barrel at any point deemed desirable by the marksman, said device affording means that can be conveniently and securely grasped when the gun is being aimed, and having no parts that are obstructively in the way either above or below the barrel. To this end, I secure a grip lengthwise beneath a yielding clip that has each side a clamping lip and is arranged to snugly slip upon the usual barrel.

A further object is to provide a novel device that will constitute a protection against the burning of the hand from the heated barrels in rapid shooting, said device also acting as a guard or protection to the hand in case the barrel bursts or explodes.

The preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of a fire arm showing the attachment in place thereon. Fig. 2 is a cross sectionalview of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view on an enlarged scale of the attachment disassociated from the fire arm.

Similar reference numerals designate correspondingparts in all the figures of the drawings.

In the embodiment illustrated, a portion of a doublebarreled gun is shown, the barrels being designated 4, and being mounted in the usual manner upon a fore I stock, the front end of which is shown, and is designated 5.

The attachment consists of a yielding barrel-embracing clip 6, preferably formed of resilient sheet metal and having its side margins upwardly and inwardly curved to form barrel-engaging lips 7, the free edges of which are spaced apart. A grip body 8 is employed that extends longitudinally along the underside of the clip and is secured thereto by fasteners 9, passing through said clip and embedded in the body. The outer face of the grip body is curved, as clearly shown in Fig. 1, and is roughened, as illustrated at 10. The inner face of the clip is covered with a lining of leather-or other suitable material 11 which prevents the marring or injury of the barrels, said lining covering the heads of the fasteners 9, as illustrated in Fig. 2.

At one end the grip body 8 has its upper portion beveled or recessed to form a seat 12, for the reception of the front end of the fore stock and the lower portion of the clip, at the same end, is cut away, as shown at 13, for the purpose of forming a seat to receive said end of the fore stock.

In use, the grip is slipped over the ends of the barrels and moved toward the stock to the position desired by the marksman, the spring lips clamping the same with. sufficient snugness to firmly hold the attachment at any point desired. If the marksman has a short reach, the grip will, of course, be disposed close to the stock, and this nearness is allowed because of the seats 12 and 13, that receive the front end of the fore stock. On the other hand, if the reach is longer, the grip is moved forwardly. By having the grip body disposed longitudinally beneath the clip, a very convenient handle is formed which can be securely grasped in a natural manner. Moreover, the view over the barrels is substantially unobstructed and the grip does not depend far enough beneath the same to be in the way. Furthermore, the hand will not come into contact with the barrels, and, in case of an explosion, the hand is protected to a very material degree by the overhanging clip.

From the foregoing it is thought that the construction, operation, and many advantages of the herein described invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, without further description, and it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

As an article of manufacture, a hand grip for fire arms comprising a single piece solid grip body having'the upper portion at one end downwardly beveled, a barrel-embracing clip consisting of a single piece of resilient sheet metal having its side margins upwardly and inwardly curved to constitute barrel engaging lips, said clip being disposed longitudinally of the grip body andhaving its central portion resting on the upper side thereof, the clip being wider than the grip body and having its central portion cutawayat the beveled end of said grip body, and fastening means passing centrally through the clip and centrally into the grip body for securing the two together.
