To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, CHARLES B. BILLITER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hudson, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Bucket- Covers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

The object of this invention is to provide a simple and efiicient cover for buckets.

The invention is especially adapted for covering sap buckets.

It provides means for ventilating the interior of the bucket; for allowing the sap to be poured therefrom; the same cover may be applied to buckets of various sizes without alteration, and it is arranged so that it does not interfere with the buckets standing close to the tree.

These and other features of the invention are hereinafter more fully explained and the essential characteristics are summarized in the claims.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan of the bucket cover. Figs. 2 and 3 are diametric sections thereof on the correspondingly numbered lines of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a fragmentary cross section on the line 44 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the bucket cover in place on a sap bucket.

Referring to the parts by numerals, 10 represents a sheet metal disk which forms the body of the cover. This disk has a pair of sector shaped portions 11 formed of the cover itself and bowed upwardly as shown. These elevations allow ventilation and space for pouring,while they prevent rain entering the bucket or anything accidentally falling therein.

On the upper side of the cover is a wire 12 which is bent in an approximately V-shaped form to present two flaring arms. Each arm is bent downward to form a hook 13, adapted to pass under the rim-bead of the bucket. At the points where the wire bends backward to form these hooks, it occupies notches 14 in the cover. Near the center of the cover, the intermediate portion of the wire is soldered to the cover, as shown at 15.

I provide a sliding clasp consisting of a wire 18 bent upon itself to present two parallel bars, the ends of which extend over the cover and beneath it and are each other, wherefore the projection 16 forms a convenient abutment, so that if these projections are grasped between the finger and thumb, the clasp 18 may be easily drawn inward to clamp the cover on the bucket. Similarly, this clasp may be easily forced outward to release the bucket. between the hooks 13, is preferably flattened, as shown at 23. This prevents the cover from overhanging the bucket and allows the bucket to lie snugly against the tree, as shown in Fig. 5.

' It will be seen that my cover is very simple and cheap in construction, and is easily applied and is adapted without alteration to buckets of various sizes, the amount which the clasp is drawn inward being the only variation for a considerable range of size of buckets.

Having thus described my invention, 1 claim:

1. A bucket cover having on opposite sides a pair of sector shaped portions bowed upwardly.

2. A bucket cover having upwardly bowed portions providing ventilation, an abutment on the upper side of the cover and carried by it, and a clasp slidably carried by the cover and having a portion to engage the edge of the bucket and an operating portion adjacent to said abutment.

3. A bucket cover having a pair of upwardly bowed portions on opposite sides of a diameter, and means carried by the cover between such upwardly bowed portions for holding the cover to the bucket.

4. A bucket cover having a pair of upwardly bowed portions, an abutment secured to the cover between such upwardly bowed portions, and a clasp extending over the edge of the cover and having a portion substantially in alinement with said abutment.

5. A bucket cover comprising a body, a retaining member secured to the upper side thereof and extending over the edge thereof in the form of a hook, and a clasp slidable on the upper side of the cover and extending over the edge thereof.

6. A bucket cover comprising a body, a wire having a pair of flaring arms and secured to the cover on its upper side, the free ends of said arms extending through notches in the cover below it and there forming hooks, and a slidable clasp carried by the cover on the other side from said hooks.

7. In a bucket cover, the combination of a body, a wire formed in an approximate V-shape and secured to the upper side of the cover and bent upward at its intermediate portion and downward at its ends across the edge of the cover, and a clasp extending over the edge of the cover and having an upwardly bent portion in cooperative relation with the upwardly bent portion of said wire.

8. A sheet metal cover having a pair of upwardly bowed portions, a wire secured on the upper side of the cover and having a portion bent upwardly between the upwardly bowed portions of the cover, said wire having an end bent downwardly across the edge of the cover, and a clasp slidably held to the cover and extending over the edge of the cover and having a portion extending upwardly substantially in alinement with the upper portion of the first mentioned wire.

9. A sheet metal cover having a pair of upwardly bent portions, a substantially V shaped wire secured on the upper side or the cover and having its intermediate portion bent upwardly between the upwardly bowed portions of the cover, said wire having its ends bent downwardly One edge of the cover,

10. A bucket cover having an elevated portion open at;

the edge to provide ventilation, and retaining means ca'rried-bythe-cover'hnd including a 'slidabie clasp extending 10 over the edgeof the'cover.
