No. 859,039. PATENTED JULY 2, 1907. A. J. BENTLEY.

APPLICATION FILED AUG. 29. 1906.

'ANSON JOEL BENTLEY, OF NILES, OHIO.
I v BRICK-PALLET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 2, 1907.
Application filed August 29,1906. Serial 332,550. r
. This invention relates to a brick palletespecially adapted for decks on single deck cars, and the primary object is to so construct the palletsasto keep them apart as they lie onacarand also to permit of ready circulation of air between the bricks on the pallets in the drier.
The invention will be hereinafter fully set forth and particularly pointed out in the claims. I i
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in perspective. Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary view. Fig. 3 is a modification.
The pallet 1, which is made of sheet metal; has along its longitudinal edges two depending flanges 2 which form supports therefor. The flanges are cut away, as at 3, to form recesses for engaging with the frame of a car, (not shown) so that the pallets will be locked as against longitudinal movement.
In order to keep thepallets apart as they lie on the car, and permit the circulation of air between the bricks as they rest on the pallets in the'drier, the extreme ends of one of the side flanges 2 are bent outwardly and upwardly forming wings or projections 4.
In some instances it is desirable to provide one set of wings tor each longitudinal flange, as shown in Fig.
-3, instead 'of having these lateral wings at one side only.
The advantages of my invention are apparent.
I claim as my invention:
1. A brick pallet having downwardly extended side flanges formed with recesses for engaging the frame 01 a car, and wings extending laterally at opposite ends of the pallet.
2. A brick pallet having downwardly extending side flanges formed with recesses for engaging the frame of a car, the extreme ends of said flanges being bent outwardly to form wings.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ANSON JOEL BENTLEY.
