(immun, both citizens of the Unit-ed States, and residents oi Springlield, in the County oi Bonhomme and State of South Dakota, have invented a neiv and Improved Computing Device., of which the following is a lull, clear, and exact desicription.

This invention relates to improvements,in compuling or adding and l ubtracting devices combined with a measuring ruler, the obj ect being io provide a deviceol' thisv charactervthat may be produced al. it small price because ol` its simple construction, and that will be found very iiseiiil as an article ol` desk furniture.

The device comprises a easing consisting ol a baseplatc. 5 which may be oi any suitable material, such, ior inst-ance,- as metal, Wood, Celluloid or other substance, and secured thereto is a iraine one edge oi which is beveled as indicated at 7 and on this beveled portion are :i 'ale marks ii indl ating int-lies and iractions of inches. The under side of the casing ne-.tr the bev eled edge has a longitudinal rib 9 which will slightly raise the edge ol the ruler from paper or the like, thus preventing the smearing ofl ink on the paper when the device is used for ruling purposes. The top of the casing or frame is provided with n sliding cover i() having openings .ll through which the numeral disks ure disclosed. i

Arranged over each disk is zi. fixed stop-plate 17 having an opening 18 through which the number on the disk is shown. `At opposite sides of each number on disk are periorations 19, Z0 in which the. point of a pencil or otherdeviee may be inserted for roi-ating the disk. rlhat is, in subtracting, the. pcncil or other device is t0 be inserted in one of the periorations for turning the disk lo the left, or in the other perforation for turning lhe disk to the right, the disk being turned until he pencil ortho like, comes in contaet'with the `stopphite 17.
