LOUIS O. I'IEIDINGER, OF BELLEVILLE, ILLINOIS.
GAME APPARATUS.
EPEOIFIOATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 696,735, dated April 1, 1902. Application filed March 14, 1900. Serial N0-'8;615- (No model.)
To aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LOUIS 0. HEIDINGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Belleville, in the county of St. Clair and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Game Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in game apparatus; and it consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my complete invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical central longitudinal section of the same, and Fig. 3 is a plan View of one of the paddles which I employ in carrying out my invention.
The object of myinvention is to construct a novel and simplified construction in a game apparatus 5 and it consists in the employment of a wheel adapted to be rotated and composed of a series of concentric dials the outer surfaces of which are provided with suitable numbers, formed thereon in any practical manner and arranged in a manner hereinafter described, said concentric dials being arranged a suitable distance from one another, the outer surfaces of which are provided with projecting pins, an upright or support to which the said wheel is movably secured and provided with a horizontal projecting arm, and plates of Variable lengths secured to the said horizontal arm, the free ends of'whioh cooperate with the pins projecting from said dials, said plates being in yielding contact.
with said pins.
My invention further consists in the employment of paddles or chips upon which numbers are placed corresponding to the numbers upon the wheel, which are adapted to be distributed among the persons taking part in the game, all of which will be more specifically described.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents a portable upright which is supported upon a base 2, and fixed to and projecting from one side of the said upright is a spindle 3, upon which the Wheel 4 is adapted to rotate. The wheel referred to is composed of a series of circular plates, preferably three in number,
which are concentrically arranged and rigidly secured together, thus varying in circumference as to size in order that the outer faces thereof may be clearly exposed to view, said circular plates being separateda suitable distance apart or in a step-like form, as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. Forminga continuation of the upright 1 is a horizontal forked extension 5, to which is secured the upper ends of three spring-plates 6, the number of which corresponds to the number of circular dial-plates 7 forming a part of the wheel 4, the lower free ends of the springplate 6 cooperating with the pins 8, secured to and projecting from the outer faces of each of the circular dial-plates 7.
Arranged upon the outer surface of the largest circular dial-plate 7 and between the pins projecting therefrom are numbers arranged in consecutive order from 1 to 20, inclusive. Upon the adjacent circular dial-plate and arranged in a like manner are numbers from 21 to 36, inclusive, and upon the remaining or smaller circular dialplate are arranged likewise numbers from 37 to 44, inclusive.
In Fig. 3 I have shown a paddle such as may be used in carrying out my invention, the number of which will be similar to the number of numbers upon the wheel 4. However, it is evident that checks or other devices may be used running in consecutive or der or numbers formed thereon from 1 to 44, inclusive.
My invention is especially adapted as an educational device by distributing paddles having numbers of different denominations among the persons taking part in the game,- and by the particular arrangement of the figures or numbers upon the concentric dials and the arrangement of the latter in respect to one another three numbers can be added together when the wheel comes at rest, the person having a paddle with the number corresponding to one of the numbers on any one of the dials being allowed to add together the three numbers and subtracting from the total amount the number upon the paddle so held, or the three numbers of the dials may be added together, as well as the number upon the paddle, as may be found most desirable,
too
thereby providing a machine which will teach children to add and subtract, the arrangement of the machine and its operation rendering an amusement at the same time.
Having f ullydescribed myinvention, what I claim is-- A game apparatus comprising a suitable standard, a wheel rotatably mounted in front of the same, a series of rigid concentric circular dial-plates forming said wheel and revolving together as a unit, said plates being separated a suitable distance apart and in a step-like form, a spindle passing through the series of dial-plates, numbers arranged upon the outer surfaces of said concentric plates and running in consecutive order from the outer to the inner plate, a slotted horizontal LOUIS C. HEIDINGER.
