Description

,NO. 857,865. PATENTED JUNE 25, 1907.
T. A. BRAMBERRY.
SANDMILL' TOY. APPLIUATION I ILED JULY 21. 1906.
T 0/7 -3 Bram Inventor Hmmcv UNITED STATES PATENT oFFIoE.
SAN D-IVIILL TOY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 25, 1907.
Application filed July 21, 1906. Serial No. 327,208.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS A. BRAM- BERRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portsmouth, in the county of Norfolk and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sand-Mill Toys, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to sand mill toys.
The object of my invention is to provide a toy that is simple and capable of being sold at a low price.
The advantages and further objects of the invention will be more fully described herein and specifically pointed out in the claims hereunto annexed, recourse being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification in which Figure 1 is a front and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the toy.
In the drawing like reference numerals indicate similar parts in all the views.
1 and 1' are two elements of a forked support of which the part 2 or stake point forms a portion, the latter is for the purpose of adapting it to be inserted into the sand when the device is to be used.
3 is a paddle or flutter wheel supported for rotation upon the axle or shaft 4 which passes through the parts 1 and 1.
5 are hubs provided with holes for the insertion of small flags or for other purposes, they also, acting to balance the weight of the paddle or flutter wheel 3.
6 (Fig. 2) and 7 are chutes or troughs placed at an incline on both sides of the fork and below the wheel 3, for carrying off the sand from the wheel for either direction of its rotation.
8 is a block placed between the members 1 and 1 and at their upper ends which is held in place by the screws or pegs 9 and 10 in such a manner as toform a tilting support for a funnel or hopper.
11 is a yoke placed over the ends of the fork and is provided with an Indians head or ornament at its to portion. The yoke 11 is held in place by tie screws 9 and 10 which may be common for all parts to be joined precisely as shown in Fig. 1.
In the manner described the rotation of the wheel may be reversed instantly without moving the supporting frame.
The hopper 13 may be a small funnel in common use and may be purchased at any tinware store.
The entire toy is usually made of wood eX- cept the shaft 4 and the hopper 13.
Having described my invention and what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A device of the character described comprising a frame, a flutter wheel therein, a hopper above said wheel, and a tilting pivoted hopper for reversing the rotation of said wheel said hopper adapted to be set at any angle.
2. A device of the character described comprising a fork, a wheel mounted for rotation therein, a perforated rockable su ported cross bar joining the free ends of sai fork, a hopper in said perforation in the bar, said bar adapted to incline said hopper for depositing sand in each side of the wheel for rotating it in either direction.
3. A device of the character described comprising a bifurcated frame having a stake point at one end, a paddle or flutter wheel mounted for rotation in the frame, a tilting or rockably supported hopper above the wheel, and a sand discharge trough on each side of the frame below. said flutter wheel.
4. A device of the class described comprising a fork having a pointed end, an aper- 5 tured pivoted block joining the free ends of said fork, a hopper or funnel in said aperture, a paddle wheel below the funnel, discharge troughs on each side of the fork, and a yoke over said funnel and secured to said fork.
