Description

PATENTED JUNE 18, 1907.
M. GABASIO. POGKET MATCH BOX.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 12, 1900.
riff] I THE mamas Ptjllli: 00., WASHINGTON, a. c.
MARCO GABASIO, or TURIN, ITALY.
POCKET MATCH-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
IPatented June 18, 1907.
Application filed May 12, 1906. Serial No. 316,545.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARCO GABAsIo, a
subject of the King of Italy, residing at Turin, Italy, have invented new and useful Imrovements in Pocket Match-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in pocket match boxes and the object of the invention is to provide a simple form of match box which may be produced at an extremely low cost and from which the matches may be readily delivered a few at a time without necessitating the opening of the box.
With these and possibly other objects in view, the invention includes the features of construction and arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described and particularly set forth in the appended claims.
It is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which, I
Figure l is a plan view of the box as opened out flat and looking at the inside. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the same. Fig. 8 is an end view, looking toward the left of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a plan view of one of the inside lining or compartment forming members. Fig. 5 is an end view of Fig. 4 looking'toward the right. Fig. 6 is a cross section of the other lining piece. Fig. 7 is a longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 8 is a detailed new of the slide which closes the delivery'opening. Fig. 9 is a plan view showing the complete box in closed position, and Fig. 10 is a view similar to Fig. 1 but showing the compartment forming linings in place and illustrating the manner in which the matches are delivered. The body of the box is constructed of a single piece of material, preferably of stiff paper with its edges bent up to form the sides of the box. The portion of the body of "the blank which is lettered A in Fig. 1 forms the bottom of the box and the portion lettered B the top. The portion A is surrounded by the turned-up flanges G, G and G forming respectivelythe side and end of the box, the end G being preferably formed of double thickness by making the flange of double width and doubling upon this forthe purpose hereinafter described. The portion B is surrounded on three sides by the flanges C, D, E, which form respectively the sides and end of this portion of the box as shown in Fig. 1, and they are folded so that they lie in a plane just inside of the plane of the sides G, G, G so that when the portion B is folded over upon the portion A the sides 0, D, E, will telescope within the sides G, G, G In the formation of the blank the sides C, G and D,
G may be made continuous and then severed at the point indicated by the letters 0, d,
indicated at f to provide portions 9 which may be turned inwardly at right angles to the sides G, G. This leaves a portion F intervening between the portions A, B of 'a width corresponding to the width of the sides of the box, as shown clearly in Fig. and allowing the part B to be folded over and down upon the part A with its sides telescoping within the sides of the part A as above re ferred to. This constitutes the box proper. The ends G and'E are each provided with an opening e, these openings being in alinement when the box is closed and forming the delivery opening for the delivery of the individual matches from the receptacle. Normally the delivery of matches through these openings is prevented by a slide R which is located in the space formed between the double portions of the side G hereinbefore described. This slide R has a lug Q, turned slightly outward and serving to limit the movement of the slide by engaging the opposite edges of the openings 6. It has also a' tongue P which serves as a handle for moving the slide to open and close the opening.
In order to hold the matches in their properposition for delivery, the two lining or compartment forming pieces are provided as will now be described. One of these is shown in 4 and 5 and is formed of a single piece L of sheet material, such as paper having its center creased so as to form a and also severed along the line of the body as standing central longitudinal rib M and hav ing bent u inclined side flanges N. A This piece is designed to be placed within the portion B with its bottom resting upon the bot tom of said portion in which position it will be seen from Fig. 10 that the end of the rib M rests in the center of the delivery opening 6 and the side flanges N converge to meet such as paper having one side T provided with three downwardly turned flanges T" T these being designed to fit over the part L and cover it for about one half its length and close the rear side thereof, thus holding the matches in position after the box has been filled and while the Jarts A and B are being folded over upon eac other.
From the foregoing description it will be thought that the construction and o eration of the device will be clear and it wil be seen that when it is desired to use a match if the slide be open and the box held vertically with the edge carrying the'slide lowermost a slight shaking of the box will cause one or more matches to b'eprojected through the opening E.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A match box comprising an outer rectangular casing having a delivery opening 4 in one end, a slide closing said opening, an
inner member having sides converging toward said opening and a second inner member coverlng the rear part of said first member, substantially as described.
2. A match box comprising an outer receptacle consisting of two flanged parts fold ed over the one upon the other with the flanges overlapping, and, having a delivery opening through the flanges of one end, a sllde closing said opening, an inner part having a central longitudinal rib and side flanges MARCO GABASIO.
