Description
UNITED s 'A rs PATENT OFFICE.-
HARNESS-HOOK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 18, 1907.
Application filed July 2, 1906. Serial No. 324Al6.
To a. whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, JoNAs I-I. HITTLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mackinaw, in the county of Tazewell and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness-Hooks, and I do declare the following to be a full, clear,
. hooks, means being provided whereby the hook may be swung to an out-of-the-wa y position when not in use.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 is a perspective view of a harness hook constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is a vertical, longitudinal sectional view of the same, showing the keeper in closed position in full lines; Fig. 3 is a detail, perspective view of the keeper; and Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 2, showing the keeper in open position for the removal of the harness from the hook.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes the hook, which consists of a lower supporting bar 2 having at one end an integrally formed upwardly-projecting pintle or pivot bolt 3, which is provided on its upper end with an enlargement 4, which forms an offset or shoulder 5. The lower portion of the pintle or pivot bolt 3 between the shoulder 5 and the bar 2 of the hook is adapted to be engaged by a clip 6, by means of which the hook is pivotally connected with the wall or other sup ort, whereby said hook may be swung latera ly in either direction to an outof-the-way position when not in use.
Formed integral with the upper end and projecting outwardly substantially parallel to the bar 2 is a guard arm 7, the outer end of which is forked or bifurcated, to present fingers. In the outer terminals of the fingers is arranged a bolt 9, on which is pivotally mounted a keeper or retaining bar 10. The keeper consists of a flat bar slightly tapered on the sides towards one end and rovided on one side adjacent to its other en with an integrally formed malleable tongue 11, which is adapted to be bent into the form of an eye 12 around the bolt 9, thereby pivotally con necting said keeper thereto. In the upper side of the bar 2 adjacent to its outer ,end is formed a recess 13, the bottom or lower wall of which inclines downwardly toward the end of the bar, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. When the keeper is in o erative position, its free or reduced end is a apted to engage with recess 13, as shown in full lines in Fig. 2. 7
When it is desired to place the harness on the hook, the keeper is swung upwardly through the. bifurcated outer end of the guard arm, thereby permitting the harness to be sli ped onto the supporting bar 2, after which tl ie keeper is swung downwardly until the lower tapered end 14 is seated in the recess 13, wherein the same is held against outward movement, thereby securely holding the harness on the bar 2. When not in use, the hook may be swung in either direction in the supporting clip 6 to an out-of-the-way position.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to withoutdeparting from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention, as defined by the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, 'what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
1. A harness hook comprising a sup orting bar having a pintle at one end and a 00king recess at its other end, a guard arm carried by the pintle and disposed in substantial parallelism with the bar and having its free end provided with spaced fingers carrying a bolt, and a keeper having an eye to engage the bolt and anend to engage the locking recess.
2. A harness hook comprising a supporting bar provided with a locking recess, a
guard arm provided with spaced fingers, a
pintle connecting the bar and the arm and provided with a bearing shoulder, a clip to engage the intle between the shoulder and the supportlng bar, and a keeper pivoted be- 5 tween the fingers and having one end arranged to engage the locking recess.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
JONAS H. HITTLE.
