To all whom it may concern.:
Beit known that I, J oHN R. VVHITTEMORE, a vcitizen of the United States` residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Locking Devices for Cranes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as' will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and tothe letters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to locking devices for cranes, and has for its object the construction of a crane-locking mechanism adapted to lock crane mechanisms together and to operate as stop mechanism for the trolley-hoists operating on such cranes.
The features of the invention are hereinafter fully set forth and described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side view, partially in elevation and partially in section, embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a top or plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail View of parts of my mechanism. Fig. 4 is a detail view showing an end view of the locking-lever of my mechanism.
In the drawings illustrating my invention, A A is a traveling-crane track and track-su pport, B a traveling crane operating on the crane-track A, and B a transverse trolley-hoist track on the crane B on which the trolleyhoist C operates, all of which are of the usual construction, and D is a trolley-track forming the arm of an ordinary jib-crane adapted to be swung around so as to coincide and be in line with the trolley-track B on the traveling crane, so thatatrolley-hoist C will travel from the track B' to and upon the track D, and vice versa.
On the top of the jib-crane D, near the outer end thereof, I pivot a locking-lever E.v This locking-lever is provided on its outer end with projecting jaws e, adapted to embrace one of the supporting-brackets A2 of the travelingcrane-track support A', as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, or other convenient stop on said track-support. On the under surface of the outer end of the locking-lever E there are lateral projections E E', having a slot e2 between them adapted to embrace the top of the end of the traveling-crane track B, as illustrated in Fig. 1. The under surface of the projections E incline upward from the central slot e2, so that as the crane-arm D is swung around so as to be at right angles to the traveling-crane-track support A and locked to the stop A2, when the traveling crane B is moved along, the top of the end of the track B engages the inclined surface on one of the projections E and raises the locking-lever E until the track B' enters the notch or slot e2, when it is locked thereby against further lateral movement and in line with the jib-crane track D, thereby locking the two trolley-hoist tracks B' and D together and to the stop A2.
On the rear end of the locking-lever E there are arms E2, adapted when the locking-lever is raised to the position shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1 to engage the trolley-hoist operating on the track D and prevent its being run off of the track D. The locking-lever E is prevented from being swung farther back by the stud CZ, with which it contacts.
For raising and lowering the locking-lever E there is an upwardly -projecting arm E3, thereon, to which a cord F is attached, eX- tending over a pulley F. I do not, however, limit myself to this means of handling the locking-lever, as other convenient mechanism may be used therefor.
On the traveling-crane trolley-hoist track B', I secure a sleeve H, in which there is a loosely-movable stop H', provided on its upper end with a flange /t and adapted normally to extend downward when in the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1 in front of the trolley-hoist C, so as to prevent the trolley-hoist from running off of the end of the track B', and on the inside of the track-support A' opposite the jlb-crane there is secured a plate a, having its upper edge curved or cam-shaped, as illustrated in Fig. 3, and adapted to engage the flange /L on the stop H and raise the stop to the position shown in full lines in Fig. 1, so as to allow the trolley-hoist C to travel off of the end of the track B upon the track D.
It will be observed that when the two trolley-hoist tracks B and D are in the position shown in Figs. l and 2 the trolley-hoist C will travel freely from one track B to the other track D, and vice versa; but when the two cranes are moved apart the trolley-hoist cannot be moved off of the end of either of them.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
1. The combination of a traveling crane, a jib-crane, a stationary stop on the travelingcrane support, alocking-lever pivoted to the jib-crane adapted to engage said stationary stop and the traveling crane, and means for operating said locking-lever, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination in a crane, of a trolleyhoist track a trolley-hoist operative thereon, a locking-lever pivoted to said crane, an arm on said locking-lever adapted to operate as a trolley-hoist stop When the locking-lever is raised and means for raising said lockinglever, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination of a traveling crane, a trolley-hoist track thereon, a trolley-hoist operative on said track, a stop mechanism on said track, means on the traveling-crane-track support for automatically operating said stop mechanism, a stationary stop on the traveling-crane-track support, a jib-crane, a trolley-hoist track thereon, a locking-lever pivoted thereto adapted to engage said stationary stop and the trolley-hoist track on the traveling crane, and lock them together and against lateral movement, an arm on said lockinglever adapted to operate as a trolley-hoist stop when the locking-lever is raised, and means for operating said locking-lever, substantially as set forth.
