CAR-MOVER.
$PECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 329.642, dated November 3, 1885.

To aZZ whmn it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARENCE V. GREENA- MYER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Western, in the county of Saline and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gar-Movers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to car movers or devices for starting cars, in which a pivoted hook for gripping the axle is combined with a cam-lever; and my invention consists in the combination of a lever provided with two eccentric or cam faces and a swinging hook. Hitherto in this class of devices the lever has been provided with but a single earn-face, in which case the lever could only be operated in one direction with relation to the hook, making it necessary to move from end to end of the car, according to the direction in which the same is to be moved. By my invention I overcome this difficulty, and am enabled to move a car in either direction from either end of it. A

For moving a car by this device in a direction away from the operator, the hook is thrown over the axle and adjusted so that the lower face is brought to bear against the axle, as shown in Fig. 1. Then an upward movement is given to the lever and the axle is gripped and moved in the direction indicated by the arrow. For moving it in the opposite direction, or toward the operator, the hook is also thrown over the axle, but the upper camface of the head is brought to bear against the axle, as shown in Fig. 2, and then by a downward movement of the lever the axle is gripped and turned in the direction indicated by the arrow.
it is obvious that by this simple implement cars may be conveniently handled and moved about, the hook always being hung over the top of the axle, in whichever direction the car is to be moved, and that the car may be moved in the direction desired, either toward or from the operator.

A car-mover consisting of the combination, with a lever having two working-faces, of a hook pivoted to the lever at a point eccentric to the working or gripping faces, substantially as described.
