- of which the following is a specification.

- ently bound sections of leaves so that the size of the book may be increased or reduced by adding thereto or removing as many of the sections as necessary, and also to bind the leaves in each section, removably, so that the number of leaves in each section may be varied'to suit different conditions and requirements.

Another object of my invention is the provision of means for binding loose leaves in book form so that the book may be opened out widewith the leaves spread fiat,w1thout injury to the leaves or the bindin and a further object is to provide a simp e construction of loose leaf ledger in accordance with the above named objects, which will be thoroughly practical and efiicient for all purposes. With these and other objects in view, my

- invention consists of clamping members for renlovably binding a number of loose leaves, sa1d members being interchangeable and re- '-movably secured to each other so that the -by joining any number of the clamping members together, and covers secured to the outer clamping members to afiord protectionto the leaves.

The invention further consists of a loose number of sections of leaves may be varied leaf ledger embodying certain other novel looseleaf-ledger looking downward upon the same, the book bein'gopened at the center.

As before state the leaves are bound in sections, each clamping section comprising a back plate or strip 5, having spaced hinge sleeves 6 formed on the longitudinal edges thereof, and the pair of side lates or clamping stri s 7, having similar hinge sleeves 8, forme on their edges to alternate with-the sleeves on the back plate. The sleeves on the hinge plates 3, carried by the covers, the 'clampmg strips 7, and the back late 5, alternate in respective order and pmtles 9, are assed through the alining sleeves in order to orm a hinge joint between otally secured together by means of a common pintle 10, which passes through the alining sleeves of the members, the sleeves of the different members being arranged to alternate in proper order.

In each clamping section, one of the side plates is provided with a pair of conical studs 11, located near the ends thereof and on the inner face'of the late, which studs cooperate with and are a apted to enter and engage the tubular posts 12, secured in correspondin positions si e plate. In order to securely hold t e clamping plates or side strips in this closed position and prevent displacement of the leaves from between the side strips, binding clips 13, are hinged to the ends of the back plates, these clips having laterally directed clamping portions 14, to engage the outer face-of the side strips and clamp the strips together, in the manner shown in Fig. 8. In order to prevent accidental release of the binding clips, one of-the ortions or fingers of each clip is preferably ormed with a raised head or protuberance 15 on its inner face adapted to ride over the edge of the corresponding side plate and engage the recess 16, formed in the face thereof, which feature is also illustrated in Fig. 8.

From the foregoing, it will be seen that the adjacent binding sections and the covers are all ivotally secured together so that the book may be opened flat to anypage without causing a strain or wear upon any of the parts thereof. Each binding section forms a distinct part so that if desired, different accounts maybe kept in the different sections with accuracy and perfect ease. If desired to add more sections to the book, the pintle connecting the adjacent sections may e removed, and one or more sections inserted as desired, so that the size of the book may be governed to suit different requirements. The number of the leaves in each section may be altered by opening the clips at the ends of the section and either adding to or number of the leaves. In order to protect the outer leaves in each section, cover leaves 17, of heavier material are preferably added, as shown in Fig. 3.

From the above description taken in connection, the general usefulness and man advantages of my improved ledger will be readily appreciated, and it will be apparent that 'I have accomplished all the results herein set forth as the objects of the invention.

I claim:

1. A loose leaf ledger comprising separable binding sections each consisting of a back plate and pivoted side plates adapted to clamp leaves therebetween, clips for securing the side plates together, covers hinged to the outer sections, the sections being connected by removable pintles so that more sections may be inserted between the outer sections common to the adjacent sections for securing the back plates and side plates. 2. A loose leaf ledger comprising 111(16- Dendent binding sections, each consistlng of pivoting the side plates to the back plates,

end clips pivoted to the back plates to clamp against the side plates, and cooperating paper guides carried by the opposing side plates.

3. A loose leaf ledger comprising independent binding sections each consisting of a back plate and two side plates, pintles pivotally securing the side plates to the back plate, end clips pivoted to the back plates to clamp against the side plates, cooperating aper guides carried by the opposing side p ates, and covers to the ledger, the pintles forming the common pivotal joint between the adjacent binding sections and the covers.

4. A loose leaf ledger comprising independent binding sections each consistlng of a back plate and two side plates, pintles pivotally securing the side plates to the back plate, end clips pivoted to the back plates to clamp the side plates, studs carried by one of the side plates, and tubular guides carried by the opposing side plate to receive said studs.

5. A loose leaf ledger comprising inde-. pendent binding sections each consistlng of a back late and two side plates, pintles pivoting tl fe sideplates to the back plate, end clips pivoted to the back plates to clamp the side plates together, studs carried by one of the side plates of each section, tubular guides 6. A paper binding section comprising a back plate and side plates each formed with cooperating hinge sleeves, hinge pintles passing through said sleeves, end clips hinged to the backplate having overhanging extensions to embrace the side plates, conical studs carried by one of the side plates, and tubular guides carried by the opposing side plate to receive the studs. I

7. A temporary binder comprising independent binding sections each consisting of a back plate and side plates formed each with cooperating hinge sleeves, hinge pintles passing through said sleeves, end clips hinged to the back plate having extensions to embrace the side plates, studs carried by one of the side plates, tubular guides carried by the opposing side plate to receive the studs, the pintles passing through certain of the hinge sleeves on the adjoining back plates to hinge the sections together, and covers hinged to the outer sections by means of the pintles on the outermost sections.
