UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALOYSIUS G, BLINCOE, OF LORETTO, KENTUCKY.
TEMPORARY BINDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 453,574, dated J' une 2, 1891.
Application led August 14, 1890. Serial No. 361,951. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALOYsIUs G. BLINOOE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Loretto, in the county of Marion and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and useful Temporary Binder, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in temporary binders.
The Object of the present invention is to provide a temporary binder adapted to be readily applied to the cover of a book to enable the leaves of the latter to be removed and replaced, as desired.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement Of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a book, provided with a temporary binder embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of a temporary binder. Fig. 4 is a sectional view, the book being opened for the removal or insertion of a leaf. Fig. 5 is a detail sectional view illustrating a modification of the invention.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, 1 designates a book-cover having secured to its sides plates 2, provided at their adjacent ends 3 with eyes, and being hinged together with a pintle 4. The leaves or plates 2 are provided with curved points or prongs 5, which pass through the sides of the cover and engage perforations 6 of leaves 7 and secure the latter between the sides Of the cover and bind the same. The points or prongs 5 are sufficiently long to extend from one cover to the Otherwithout projecting beyond the same when the book :is closed and they are curved throughout their length, enabling them to readily enter the perforations of the bookleaves. This construction of binder is especially designed for record-books, book-keeping, and the like, and enables the book-leaves which are blank to be removed from the cover and be type-written and replaced. The curved prongs or points may be arranged opposite to each other and be adapted to co-operate, in which case one of the prongs will be tubular and the other will be adapted to enter the tubular one.
It will be seen that the temporary binder is simple and inexpensive in construction and is capable of enabling the leaves of a book to be conveniently removed and inserted. Y
What I claim is- 1. A temporary binder comprising the cover and the leaves or plates 2,secured to the sides of the cover and being hinged together and provided with inwardly-extending points Or prongs 5, rigidly secured to the leaves Or plates and arranged to engage the leaves of the book, substantially as described.
2. Atemporarybinder comprising the cover and the plates or leaves 2, secured to the cover and being hinged together and provided with inwardly-extending points orprongs 5, curved throughout their length and rigidly secured to the plates or leaves and adapted to engage book-leaves, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my Own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALOYSIUS G. BLINCOE. lN/vitiiesses:
