ALFRED PHILLIPS CRABB, OFLONDON, ENGLAND.
IVIETAL RECEPTACLE FOR HOLDING LIQUIDS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 11, 1907.
Application filed April 11, 1905. Serial No. 255,060.
To all when@ it ntf/,y concern.-
Be it known that I, ALFRED PnILLiPs CRABB, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at 7 St. Marks Crescent, Regents Park, in the county of London, England, manufacturer, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Manufacture of Metal Receptacles for IIolding Liquid, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvement in the construction of metal receptacles for holding liquids and has particular reference to such articles for containing liquid which it is desired to deliver from the receptacle in the form of sprays or small drops and specially for liquids which are somewhat volatile in their nature and therefore present difficulties when a hermetical joint is being made by means of soldering, an example may be given for the usel of such a receptacle viz: for containing' a polishing liquid having one or more volatile constituents and which it is desired to deliver from the bottle in small drops in a controllable manner.
In order that the invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same in relation to the accompanying drawings reference being had to the letters and figures marked thereon.
Like letters refer to like parts in the various figures.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of a metal receptacle made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a receptacle with the cap removed. Fig. 3 represents the screw cap and the closing cover separate.
'To carry this invention into effect, I preferably form the receptacle or bottle a of ordinary tinned plate and I form the neck of the bottle a in such a way as to present a cylindrical end on the periphery of which is provided a screw thread c adapted to engage the screw cap d with a packing disk c contained therein or other e uivalent means so as to make an hermetic( closing of thereceptacle or bottle.
At the upper part of the neck b, the metal is turned down inward in order to form the necessary bearing f for a closing cover g. The cover g may be stamped up in tin in the usual way and is provided with one or more small holes h therethrougl'i. The cover is left out of its support in the bottle until the latter has been filled with liquid, when the small cover or cap gis pressed into the neck l) of the receptacle or bottle c and is retained therein by the elasticity of the material. The bottle when thus closed can be inverted in order to shake some of the liquid contained therein, through the perforation or perforations h on to the article on to which the polish is to be applied. Vhen the polish is not required for use any longer, the screwed cap d with the packing disk e is screwed on to the neck l) of the bottle, effectively closing the same.
It will be noticed in this way that while an ample orifice is left for filling the bottle which can be subsequently closed efliciently, provision is made for the delivery of the liquid from the bottle of a suitable character and finally the bottle is provided with-the means for hermetically sealing the same.
Having now described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 2* A receptacle having a neck through which the receptacle may be filled, said neck being externally screw threaded and having its upper edge bent inwardly and then downwardly to form a cylindrical flange around the opening in the neck, a closing perforated cover g having its periphery bent to form a cylindrical flange which is adapted to engage the cylindrical flange on the neck and a screw threaded cap d adapted to engage with the screw threads on the neck, and a packing disk c located in the screw cap and bearing against the bent over portion of the neck when the cap is screwed down on the neck.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses: l
ALFRED PHILLIPS CRABB.
Vitnesses:
REGINALD WILLLAM JAMES, CHARLES CARTER.
