To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, CLEVELAND G. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Manistee, in the county of Manistee and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination- Ladders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in combination ladders.

The object of the invention is to provide a ladder of this character constructed of a plurality of sections having means for removably connecting the same together at their upper ends to form a support for a platform or scaffold.

A further object is to provide a ladder composed of a plurality of sections each of which sections taper from their lower to their upper ends whereby when one of said sections is used single the same may be more readily projected into trees or small places to support the same.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrange ment of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawing,Figure 1 is a perspective view of the ladder arranged in tripod form for supporting the scaffold or platform; Fig. 2 is a side view of one of the sections of the ladder detached for use singly; Fig. 3 is an enlarged perspective view of the upper end of one of the ladder section showing the connectin ring thereon; and Fig. 4 is a similar view showing one of the connecting hooks.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes the ladder which is formed of a plurality of sections 2, each of said sections being aladder in itself and preferably formed to taper from its lower toward its upper end, said upper end forming an elongated supporting member or rest 3 which may be readily projected in between the branches of a tree where the insertion of a ladder of the ordinary construction would be difficult, thereby providing a ladder particularly adapted for picking fruit.

In the arrangement of the ladder, as shown in Fig. 1, the sections '2 of which there are preferably three, are arranged in tripod form, thus being self-supported and providing a support for a platform or scaffold boards which are engaged with the rounds of the ladder and arranged in any suitable manner to form a platform.

l/Vhen the sections of the ladder are arranged in tripod form, as shown in Fig. 1, the upper ends of the same are connected together by a suitable fastening device, said device being here shown and preferably consisting of a ring l which is loosely secured to the upper end of one of the ladder sections and through said ring is adapted to be inserted the upper ends of the other sections of the ladder, said other sections being provided with right angularly formed laterally proj ecting hooks 5 which when the ends are proter, thereby connecting and holding the upper ends of the ladder sections together.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the prin ciple or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention, as defined by the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure byLetters- Patent, is,-

1. A combination ladder comprising a plurality of sections each of which are an independent ladder, a connecting ring loosely con nected to the upper end of one of said sections and adapted to receive the upper ends of the other sections to hold the same together when the ladder is arranged in tripod form and hooks arranged on said other sections to en gage said ring, substantially as described.

2. A ladder comprising a plurality of independent sections each of said sections being in the form of an independent ladder which preferably tapers from its lower tojected through the ring will engage the latward its upper end to form a tapering su port, a connecting ring loosely secured to t e upper end of one of said sections and adapted to receive the upper ends with the other sections When the same are arranged in tripod i form, and hooks arranged on the upper ends of said other sections to engage said ring, substantially as described.
