Letters Patent No. 85,626, dated Januwry 5,1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOBACCO-SHOPPERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. WAITE, of the city,
county, and State of New York, have invented a new.
parts.
My invention has for its object to flll'lIllSh a simple and convenient instrument for holding a cigar, when smoked close, and also for use as a pipe-stopper, and for cleaning out the bowl of the pipe; and
It consists in the construction and combination of the various parts of the instrument as hereinafter more fully described.
A is the case of the instrument which is made 1201-- low, and within the cavity thus formed is placed a small sliding bar, B, having a fork, 0, formed uponits forward end.
I) is a small knob, the stem of which passes in through a slot in the side of the case A, and is attached to the bar- B, so that the bar B may be operated to project the fork G from or draw it back into the said case A.
In using the instrument, the fork O is thrust into the cigar to be held, so that the cigar maybe conven iently held and smoked after it may have become too short to be otherwise held while being smoked.
To the other end of the sliding bar 13' is attached, or upon it is formed, a spoon or other-shaped instrument, 'D, for cleaning out the bowl of a tobacco-pipe, as shown in fig. 2.
Upon one end of the case A, preferably upon the end from which the fork 0 projects, is formed, or to it is attached, a circular flange-plate, E, having a slot or opening inits central part, for the passage of the said fork, and which is made of such a size that it may enter the bowl of a pipe and be used as a stopper to push down the ashes.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure Patent-- l. The combination of the hollow case A, sliding bar B, and fork O, with each other, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of the cleaner D and circular flange-plate E, either or both, with the hollow case A and sliding bar B, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination of the hollow case A, sliding bar B, fork C, cleaner D, and flange-plate E, with each other, substantially as 'herein shown and described, and for the pin-pose set forth.
The above specification of my invention signed by me, this 17th day of November, 1868.
