Description

FRIEDRICH JUHANN HEINRICH ROEWER, OFHAMBURG, GERMANY.
MBTW$LYGERBN EXPLOSIVE- no. senses.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented na is, 1907.
Application filed. July 25. 1905. Serial No- 71,252.
--To whom it may concern.-
Be it known that i, Fnmnnron JOHANN Hemmer; Ronwnn, doctor of philosophy, chemist, a subject of the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg strelitz, residing at Hamburg,
Germany, bei dem Zippelhause 18, have invented. new and useful Improvements in Nitroglycerin Explosives, of which the following is a specification.
Various compounds have been proposed before for preventing or reducing the congealing tendency of nitroglycerin and nitroglycerin explosives, without, however, having come into practical use owing to ineiliciency of purpose and detrimental efieot upon the expiosive force of nitroglycerin.
The present invention relates to monochlordinitroglycerin which I have discovered to be ecornpound suitable for reducing the congeaiing tendency of nitroglycerin, With out lessening the force of the explosive. By adding 5 to 20 monochlordinitroglycerin to nitroglycerin, explosives are obtained which in proportion to the amount of mono- ,ciilordinitroglycerin added will either not congeal at all or at very low temperatures and Without affecting the explosive force.
The mixture may be obtained either by adding the monochlordinitroglycerin to nitro lycerin or by nit-rating monochlorhydrin an glycerin.
Monochlordinitroglycerin may be used without any disadvantage in the manufacture of non-geiatinized explosives; as for the manufacture of gelatinized explosives the addition of monochlordinitrogg cerin facilitates. the gelatinizing process an conse uently a better gelatinous explosive results t ran with pure nitroglycerin.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be per formed, I declare that What I claim is:
A nitroglycerin explosive containing dinitro-monochlor-hydrin, to protect the explosive from the danger of freezing, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRIEDRICH JGHAliN KEINRICH BOEWER.
Witnesses:
ERNEST H. L. MUMMENHOFF, OTTO W. HELLMRIGH.
