Description

No. 853.479. PATENTED MAY 14, 1907.
J. E. SMITH.
MEAT SAW.
APPLIUATION FILED MAR.'28, 1906.
. WITNESSES: IIVl/E/IITOR ,4 TTOR IVEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. I
JOSEPH E. SMITH, OF FORT WAYNE, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR OF ON E:HALF TO SEBASTIAN C. KISER, OF HUNTINGTON, INDIANA.
MEAT-SAW.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 14, 1907.
1'0 (Ll/Z whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH E. SMITH, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Fort Wayne, in the county-of Allen and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Meat-Saws, of which the following is a speci fication.
This invention relates to improvements in band m'eat saws intended especially for use in retail meat markets, and the object thereof is to provide a suitable saw for meats, which can be operated by motive power, and which can be moved into various positions while in operation.
The above object is accomplished by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention; and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views, and referring now tothe same:
1 is a supporting base having in connection with its upper end a horizontally swinging bracket 2. A secondary base 3 is pivotedly mounted upon the bracket 2 at the outer end thereof. The base 3 has thereon a standard 4 with a bearing 5 at its upper end, and a block 6 having a sleeve 7 is mounted in connection with the bearing so that the sleeve of the former may be oscillated therein. A shaft 8 extends through the block and sleeve, and has fixed at its outer end a band wheel 9, and upon its opposite end a gear wheel 10 which has relation with a motor 11 to be actuated thereby. Upon the block 6 is mounted an adjustable frame 12, and an adjusting screw 13 provided with a hand wheel 14 is arranged in connection with the frame and block by means of which the former is adjusted relativeto the latter. A stud 15 extends from the rear end of the frame 12 and has adiustably mounted thereon a weight 16. From the front of the frame 12 extends a rigid arm 17 having at its extreme outer end a handle 18. Upon the arm 17 is secured a lateral stud 19 having mounted thereon a band wheel 20 which ranges in line with the band wheel 9. Upon said band Wheels is trained a band saw 21, the saw being twisted so that one of its faces rides upon one wheel and its opposite face rides upon the other wheel, and therefore the blade of the saw will range edgewise in a vertical plane at points midway between the Wheels 9 and 20, and the teeth thereof upon the lower strand will extend downward.
In the operation of this invention, the saw is raised or lowered in position by manipulating the handle 18 vertically, and may also be swung laterally because of the pivotal connection of the base 3 with the bracket 2, and because of the swinging adjustment of the bracket 2 and the pivotal connection of the base 3 therewith, the saw may be moved ,forward or backward as occasion arises. By this arrangement the middle portion of the lower strand of the saw may be brought to the required location and applied to action by lowering the handle 18.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a device of the class described a supporting base having thereon a swinging bracket; asecondary base in pivotal connection with the bracket at the outer end thereof; an oscillating block in connection with the latter base; a vertically swinging arm having a handle at its outer end, and having adjustable relation with the block; a band wheel having supported relationv with the block and having 1n connection therewith a suitable motor to actuate the same; another band wheel in line with the former band wheel, and having supported connection with the swinging arm; and a band saw trained upon said'wheels.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
