HEINRICH UNTIEDT, OF SCHWEINFURT, GERMANY,
COLD-SAWING MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 680,089, elated. August 6, 1901'.-
Application iiled February 26, 1901. Serial No. 48,990. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, HEINRICH UNTIEDT, civil engineer, a citizen of the Empire of Germany, resid'ing at Schramstrasse 8, Schweinfurt-on-the-Main, in the Kingdom of Bavaria, in the Empire of Germany, have invented new and usefullmprovements in Cold-sawing Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to cold-sawing machines, and has for its object to provide an improved machine of this class comprising a saw-blade mounted on a horizontal shaft, means for swiveling the blade and its shaft on avertical shaft, whereby cuts at dierent angles may be made, and means for adjusting and driving the blade at any angle.
With this object in View the invention consists in the improved construction, arrangement, and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and afterward specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawing is illustrated in elevation a machine constructed in accordance with my invention.
In the drawing, a indicates the work table or support of ordinary construction adjustable in two directions at right angles to each other. The piece to be sawed is secured to the support a in any suitable manner.
The blade of the saw b is secured to a horizontal shaft c, which is supported in a crossarm cl and is turned by means of a worm and a worm-wheel. The shaft g of the worm is suspended on a chain h, which may be lifted and lowered by means of a crank t' and driven through a spring and long groove by a pair of bevel-wheelsvlo 7c. The shaft of Jthe driving bevel-wheel receives its motion from any suitable power through a fixed and loose pulley, but may be driven in any other suit-able manner. The cross-arm d slides on a casing l, passing through the frame of the machine and embracing the shaft g. The connection between d andZ is such thatcl can only be turned together with Z. This'turning is eected by means of the handle 0 through the worm and worm-wheel m. The casing may be secured in any position by means of a set-screw p. By turning the easingl the circular saw may be adjusted at any other angle for cutting, so that oblique cuts may easily be made at any angle desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is=
The combination in a cold-sawing machine, of a vertical driving-shaft, a sleeve embracing said shaft, a cross-arm, slidable on and rotatable with the sleeve, a horizontal shaft journaled in said arm, a circularl blade secured to the horizontal shaft, a pulley and a crank-shaft mounted in the frame of the ma-A chine, a chain from the crank-shaft passing over the pulley and secured to the top of the vertical shaft, and means for drivin g the shaft, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name, this 4th day of February, 1901, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HEINRICH UNTIEDT.
