COMBINED MATCH AND CIGAR-BOX.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GUSTAV GRABTZ, of Alexandria, in the county of Alexandria, and State of Virginia, have invented a new and usefulv Combined Match-Box, Match-Igniter, and Cigar-Holder; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and

exact description thereof, sufficient to enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference.

being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a top viewof the match-receptacle; Figure 2, a similar view of the cigar-holder open;

Figure 3, a side view, representing the match-ignite!" A represents the match-box, which may be divided into two compartments, be, by a partition,1a. These receptacles b' e are provided respectively with hinged lids 0Y2, which have each a suitable catch or fastening-device.

A tubular chamber, B, is formed by the longitudinal partition f, extending the entire length of the match-boxes. In one'side of this part B is formed a long slot, 9, as shownin fig. 3.

Within chamber B is arranged a follower, 0, whose shank his encircled by a spring, D, secured in the tubular extension B of part B.

Abutton, c, on follower 0, serves as a means whereby the follower is moved back to the position shown in red lines, fig. '3.

The shank h of follower G is formed with a hook, t, at its rear end. This hook, when the follower is moved back, projects through the open end of the part B, and catches against said end, thereby holding the follower in the position represented by red lines.

A match may now be introduced through the slot g, so as to rest lengthwise within the chamber B.

The catch 'i is pressed upward by the finger, out of engagement with the end .of part B, when the folof platel, around opening it, is serrated, to facilitate.

E, fig. 4, is a sheet-metal lining for the chamber B. The front portion of this lining is slit longitudinally, forming spring-arms 0, having serrated ends, which surround the opening is. These serrated spring-aims assist to cause the friction-whereby the match is igprevent its being forced entirely through theopening 70 by the spring semi-cylindrical part, F, permanently fixed to or forming part'of the casing,'and a cover, F, of similar form,

This holder is intended principally to receive a lighted By enclosing a lighted cigar in this receptacle, it is soon extinguished, and may be carried without being broken, and without imparting a disagreeable scent to the clothing. It will be observed, however, that the holder may be used to contain one or more spare oigars or cigarettes.-

Constructed as above described, a neat and convenient pocket-companion for the smoker is produced, the advantages of which will be readily appreciated.

' What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,is-

The combined match-box, igniter, and cigar-holder, composed of the compartment A, having one or more hinged covers, the cigar-holder F F and the slotted chamber B B y, with spring 'D, follower G c h, lining E, and serrated spring-holders c, all substantially as herein described.
