MOSQUITO NETTING AND BAR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 23, 1907.
Application filed October 19, 1906. Serial No. 339,634.
To all whom {it "my OOH/(16PM:
Be it known that l, J ()SEPH B. R. N OBLE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Washington, in the county of Washington and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mosquito Nettings and Bars, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in mosquito nettings and bars.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive mosquito net or bar l which will thoroughly protect a person lying beneath the same from :mosquitos or similar insects.
In the frame is mounted a novel fan adap ted to be actuated by the person lying beneath l, the mosquito net, whereby a circulation of air within the net may be inaii'itained, which will have a tendency to drive mosquitos or similar insects from the netting.
The detail construction of my improved mosquito netting will be presently described and thenspecifically pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawing forming a part of this specification, like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which:
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of my improved mosquito net, illustrating the same as used in a sleeping compartment, and Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of a portion of the mosquito net. l
To put my invention into practice, 1 conl struct my improved mosquito netting of a plate 1 having an eyelet 2 by which the mosquite netting is suspended from the ceiling of i a sleeping compartment, the ceiling being provided with suitable hook 3. Suspended from the edges of the plate 1 by angularly disposed hangers 4 is a horizontally disposed oval frame 5. in practice I. have found a convenient and practical method of supporting the oval frame 5 to be that shown in the present illustration of my invention, which consists in bending the lower ends of the I hangers 4, substantially into the form of a l hook, into which hooked ends the frame 5 is l l l l received as shown. Mounted over the plate 1 in the frame 5 is a perforated hood 6 preferably made of finely woven netting. lhe hood has its upper edges suitably secured to the eyelet 2, while its lower edges are adapted to drape over the bed 7 in connection with which it is used.
The oval -frame 5 is braced centrally by means of a rod Supon which is loosely mounted a. depending blade 9 having an upwardly extending arm 10 To the end of the army .1 0 is attached a cord or cable 1 1, said cable passing through an. eyelet 12 carried by the frame 5, and an eyelet 1-1 carried by the lead piece of the bed 7. The end of tlxe cable or cord is provided with a handle 15, adapted to be gripped by a person lying upon the bed, when it is desired to oscillate the blade 9. The blade 9 serves functionally as a fan and when oscillated by pulling upon the cable or cord 11, it is adapted to place the air within the netting in circulation whereby the person ly ing upon the bed or couch will be maintained .in. a cool state. The fan also assists in preventing mosquitos or similar insects from entering the hood 6, y
it will be observed that such changes in the size, material and minor details of construction, as are permissible by the appended claims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
hat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
in a device for suspending mosquito netting or canopies, the combination of a suspending plate having an eyelet, hangers secured at their upper ends to the edges of said plate and having their lower ends substantially hooleshape in form, a frame in the form of an endless band received in said, hook-shaped ends of the langers, a rod for bracing said frame centrally having its ends received in two of said angers, and a netting enclosing the plate, tlte hangers, and the frame.
In testimony whereof I a [fix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH B. R. NOBLE.
