Be it known that we, HERMAN NoN'NAs'r and WILHELM TEsAR, citizens of the United States of America, and residents of Chicago, Cook county, Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in ledestal Extension-Tables, of which the following is a specification.

Our invention contemplates an extension table in which a separable pedestal arrangement and one or more folding leaves are combined for harmonious co-operation in extending the area of the table-top.

Generally stated, the object in our invention is to provide an efficient and highly satisfactory table of the foregoing character.

A special object is to provide an improved construction and arrangement whereby a separable pedestal may be combined with one or more leaves or movable table-top sections, lying normally beneath the main tabletop section, and adapted, when the two parts of the pedestal are pulled apart or separated, to automatically risc into the plain of the main table-top section.

It is also an object to provide certain details and features of improvement tending to increase the general efficiency and serviceability of a table of this particular charaeter.

To the foregoing and other useful ends our invention may consist in matters hereinafter set forth and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan of a table embodying the principles of our invention, the lower portions of the figure being shown in horizontal section. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on line 2 2 in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the upper portion of the table, the parts at the left being shown in vertical section, and one-half of the pedestal being drawn away from the center eg. Fig. 4 is a vertical section on line 4 4 in Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a vertical section on line 5 5 in Fig. 1.

As thus illustrated, our invention may comprise a main table-top section 1, a center leg 2, bearing a Xed relation to said main table-top section, a separable pedestal consisting of the two parts 3 and 4, and a pair of leaves or movable table-top sections 5 and 6, which latter are adapted to lie normally below the main table-top section that is to say, when the two parts of the pedestal are toglether, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, 4 and 5.

he main table-top section 1 is secured to the center-leg 2 through the medium of the cross-bar 7 or bearing plate and the two parallel side rails 8 and LJ. The other side rails 10 and 11 are connected respectively with the pedestal sections 3 and 4 through the mediuni of the relativcl)r sliding inner rails 12 and 13 and the connecting cross bars 1 5 and 16. Thus the rail 10, the members 12 and 15, and the pedestal section 3, are all rigidly connected and constitute one of the telescoping frame portions of the table. The rail 11, the members 13 and 16, and the pedestal section 4, are all rigidly connected together, and constitute the other teleseoping frame portion. rest and slide upon the main cross-bar or beam 7, and are held against lateral displacement by reason of their arrangement from sliding movement in the openings 17 in the beams or timbers 18, which latter are mounted edgewise upon the main cross-bar 7 Thus there are practically two rigid and relatively adjustable or teleswping frameportions adapted to be closed together or drawn apart, and between these two frame portions there is a third frame portion consisting of the center-leg 2, the main table-top section 1, and the cross-bar 7.

T he adjustable frame-portion including the pedestal section 3 carries the leaf or movable table-top section 5, while the adjustable frame portion which includes the pedestal section 4 carries a similar leaf or movable table-top section 6. The leaf 5 is connected by means of links 19 and 2() with the sliding beams 21, which latter have their outer ends secured to the rail 1U. rlhe other ends of these beams or members are provided with dove-tail portions 22 adapted to slide in dove-tail rooves 23 in the beams or members 24. hese beams or members 24 are, in turn, provided with dove-tail portions 25 adapted to slide in dove-tail grooves 26 in the outer rails 8 and 9. Thus the members 21` and 24 constitute extensible or telescoping portions for the adjustable frame portions including the pedestal extension 3. The sliding members 24 can be provided with stops 26, adapted to engage the lower ends 27 of the swingin links 2() when the pedestal section 3 and t e parts carried by it are drawn away from the center-leg as shown in Fig. 3. In a similar manner, the movable leaf 6 at the other side of the table can be supported by links 28 and 29, which have their lower ends pivoted to the beams or frame mem- The inner rails or beams 12 and 13 IOO bers 30. Those frame members 3() have u. dove tailed sliding section with the beams oi members 31, and the latter in turn have a dove tailed joint or sliding connection with the rails 8 and Si. And as in the previous case the lower ends ot the links .ZJ are lengthened and adapted to engage stops 32 secured to the members 3l.

Normally, as stated, the leaves or movable table-top sections 5 and 6 occupy a position immediately below the main table-top section 1, as shown in Fig. 3, and at such time rest upon the side rails 1U and 11, as shown in Fig. 2, and also upon the side rails 8 and 9, as shown in Fig. 4. But when the two sections ol the pedestal are pulled apart, the links 20 and 29 are brought into engagement with the stops 26 and 32, and as soon as the two leaves 5 and 6 are out 'from under the main tablo-top section, and as soon as the limit of separation or relative movement of the two frame portions has been nearly reached, the said stops and lengtliened links then co-operate iii causing the two leaves to automatically rise into the plain ol' the main table-top section. After this, the two traine portions can he adjusted toward each other for the purpose ol' bringing the inner edges of the leaves 5 and 6 int-o engagement with the edges of the niain-table-top section. And when it is desired to again reduce the aren of the table top, it is only necessary to pull the pedestal sections farther apart. so as to disengage the leaves 5 :ind 6 iroin the edges of the main table-top section. The two leaves cati then be swung down upon their resting places upon the rails 10 and 11, and then ro ht beneath the main table-top section by :ising the two sei-tions of the pedestal ti titl)v together. And at this juncture it will be seen that the table, although of the pedestal ty e= involves a continuous table top which 'oes not part at the center, and which is rigidly connected with the centerclYith further respect to the combination of a. two-part pedestal normally enclosing a centereg with the leaves normally concealed beneath the main table-top section, it will be seen that the members 12 and 13 cons titute two pairs or inner rails rigid respectively with the two parts ol the pedestal, and

What we claim as our invention is;
