THOMAS H. OBRIEN, or FONl) DU LAC/WISCONSIN.
TICKET on TAG.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 23, 1907.
Application filed Pebruary1'7, 1906. Serial No. 301.652 I To (ZZZ whom it WMLZ/ concern:
Be it known that I, THoMAs H. OBRIEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fond du'Lac, in the county of Fond du Lac and. State of WVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tickets or Tags, of which the following isa specification.
My invention relates to improvements in tags or tickets particularly adapted to be affixed to dry goods in the piece or roll.
It has for its object to provide for the ready attaching or aflixing to the article or goods of the ticket or tag and in such manner as to guard against the point or points of the attaching or affixing pin or fastening piercing or contacting with the hands.
To these ends, the invention consists of certain structural features substantially as hereinafter fully disclosed and particularly pointed out by the claims.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating the preferred embodiment of my invention Figure 1 is a perspective view thereof. Fig. 2 is a detached like view of the principal affixing or attaching pin. Fig. 3 is also a like view of the tag or ticket, itself, with the said attaching pin removed and the flap extended. Fig. 4 is a sectional elevation of the parts as embraced in Fig. 1. i Fig. 5 is a modification, suggesting the employment of a slot or slit for the reception, or tucking thereinto, of a central extension or terminal of the ticketflap. Fig. 5 is a vertical section of the form of ticket disclosed by Fig. 5, with the parts in effective position. Fig. 6 is a second modification, with the ticket or tag doubled or folded upon itself, embodying a pocket for receiving the flap-extension. Fig. 7 is a third modification, pertaining more especially to a variation in the folding or doubling of the ticket upo'n itself together with. the flap, and Fig. 8 is a sectional elevation thereof. Figs. 9 and 10 show a fourth modification of the same. e
In carrying out my invention, I contrive a tag or ticket 1 of peculiar formation, and. equip it, near the upper end, with a pin or fastening 2 as the primary means of attaching the ticket or tag to the article or goods designed to bear the same. Said ticket or tag is of some suitable stiff fibrous material, as card-board, paste-board, or the like, upon which may be placed the required data or memoranda, as well understood, with the attaching pin or fastening 2 applied thereto preferably as shown, having its point or piercing end brought around to the front, after the passing of the pin bodily through the article or goods, upon the rear side of the ticket or tag. The ticket, together with a short end portion 1'" thereof, doubledor folded down upon itself, is provided with opposite notches 1 for the reception of the lateral or curved portions of the pin or fastening for the retention of the latter thereon. Said pin has its looped or headed end also brought around to the front side of the ticket in close relation With its point, the purpose of which will presently appear. Said. ticket or tag may be, and is equipped a suitable distance from the aforesaid pin, with a second pin or fastening 3 which is looped or passed. through the goods and havingits ends brought through apertures in the ticket or tag and bent down upon the latter-as shown, for the more effective retention of the ticket or tag in place upon the article or goods to which it may be applied. Also it will be noted that, in order to conceal the points of said attaching or af fixing pins or fastenings, to prevent their contact with, or the piercing of the hands thereby, the ticket or tag 1 is folded or doubled upon itself and over said points and over its upper edge, and has a fiap 4 inserted or tucked in between the goods or article and itself as seen in Fig. 4.
In Figs. 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 are shown modifications, in all essentials the same as the foregoing, which however differ therefrom in that theflap 5 of the ticket or tag shown in Fig. 5
is tucked or inserted into a slot or slit 6 produced in the latter and the flap 7 of the ticket of Fig. 6 is inserted or tucked into a pocket 8; while in Fig. 7 the flap 9 forms an extension of the ticket-member 10 which is doubled upon itself as at 10 and over its upper edge, and tucked or inserted in between the ticket and the article or goods; and in Fig. 9 a pin 2 is looped at one end through the ticket and bent down and thus secured thereon as at 2 Said pin, also after having been passed through the article, is bent into a single lateral notch 1 in the distant edge of the ticket, its point-equipped end. portion then. being returned upon the opposite side of the ticket and terminated close to the looped portion of said pin. The ticket, in this instance, has a flap 5 formed of an upper-end overlapping extension thereof and having its contracted terminal portion tucked through a slit or slot 1 in the body-portioniof the ticket, thus securing said flap over, and concealing the pin point. i a
I claim 1. A ticket or tag of the character described, having a flap and adapted to be folded or doubled upon itself, an attaching pin or fastening encompassing transversely said ticket or tag and means for the retention of said flap in effective position. over the pointed end of said pin.
2. A ticket or tag of the character described, adapted to be folded upon itself and having a flap, an attaching pin or fastening encompassing transversely said ticket, and said ticket adapted to permit said flap to be tucked thereinto.
8. A ticket or tag of the character described, having a flap and a pocket and adapted to be folded upon itself, an attachassin transverselv said ta or ticket said b u D ticket adapted to permit said flap to be tucked thereinto and the pin-terminals to be guarded by said flap, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
THOMAS H. OBRIEN.
